Alphys decided to look at some of the old files left behind by the previous scientist to help with her research. 'Mettaton is going to need some maintenance soon,' thought Alphys. A file caught her eye. Possession and Souls was the file name. Alphys clicked it and a semi corrupted file came up.
'This is a mess,' she thought. She noted there appeared to be what was likely a machine blueprint, though it was to corrupted to make any sense, some notes on ghosts possession abilities, souls, and what looked to be another set of blueprints.
'Ghosts can only possess a limited number of hosts normally, the more powerful the ghosts, the more hosts they can use,' read Alphys, 'It may be possible to transfer a soul into an animate object to mimic this possession.' She stared at the file a minute before clicking open the other blueprint.
Soul Housing Device, the blueprint was labeled. The image itself was blurry but looked vaguely humanoid.

Reading what she could of the notes, Alphys stared in confusion. 'Did he plan to use this soul housing device to keep his daughter alive? Why is it talking about pottery as well? And paint?' She thought.
"Papyrus, why do you have that thing?" Asked Undyne pointing at Papyrus's doll. "My doll? My dad gave her to me." Said Papyrus. "I don't think King Asgore would give you that creepy thing," said Undyne doubtfully. "No, no, my first dad gave me her. He said she was a special doll, but didn't work how she was intended to." Said Papyrus. "That's kinda weird," said Undyne.
"Paps, I think your doll is staring at me," said Undyne. "Undyne, she doesn't even have eye lights, just sockets. How can she be staring at you?" Said Papyrus as he rolled his eye lights. "I'm telling you, it's staring into my soul, I can feel it." She said. "She, not it. Also, she's a doll, she can't really do anything without someone moving her or a ghost doing something." Said Papyrus. "You sure it's not possessed?" Asked Undyne. "Yes, no ghost has ever gotten near her and she's never moved like a ghost possessing her would." Said Papyrus. "I'm still not convinced, that thing is creepy," muttered Undyne.
