ch. 12: Blood Loyalties

The Count and Vlad discovered word of a slayer attack on Garside so they decided to attack first. The Slayers developed a new weapon, a UV generator, which they planned to use to dust the vampires of Garside in an instant. Vlad and the Count found the warehouse the slayers were using to house the weapon and entered when the place was empty. They broke open the control panel and Vlad reared back a ball of fire to take out the circuitry. He and the Count took turns throwing fireballs until every light went out. But then a strangr rumbling and bolts of electricity led them to believe it had become unstable. "I think it's going to explode." Vlad spoke. A bright purple light came from one of the canisters and the two of them quickly jumped out of the way. 

"What is going on here?" A voice hollered and they turned around to see Johno walking up. The Count immediately became hostile to keep him back, fangs bared. 

"I hope you don't mind me sharing your snack." He told Vad, keeping his eyes trained on Johno.

"There will be no biting today." Vlad announced and the Count glanced back in shock and disappointment. "Go." Vlad instructed him. The Count flinched towards Johnno who flinched back and then he sped off. "I won't hurt you." Vlad promised. "Just pass on a message to the guild. I want peace, between vampires and breathers." 

"You want peace?!" Johno exclaimed in disbelief.

"Yeah. It's all I've ever wanted." Vlad replied.

"My dad's dead, and it's all because of you." Johno revealed.

"You said it was an accident." Vlad spoke, feeling guilty.

"A bunch of vampires attacked him and because of your mind-wipe he never stood a chance!" Johno yelled.

"Johno I-I'm so sorry. I didn't-"

"You will be." Johno interrupted.

"I meant what I said. I wish I never put the mind wipe on your dad and I never meant for him to get hurt." Vlad tried to explain. "I am truly sorry." He added before hurrying off in case something were to happen. Johno ran out of the building and up to the car where Mina was waiting.

"What happened?!" She asked.

"They found us and they destroyed the generator. What do we do?" He asked.

"We do what your father would have done. We fight back hard, and we do it now." She told him and they drove off.

When Mina and Johno arrived at the school they saw Wolfie, Magda's son, being dragged off by a maled vampire in scruffy clothing. They thought Wolfie was a human boy so they hurried in to save him. They found Ingrid with Wolfie and it looked like she was about to bite him but she was giving his a stern talk about not running off. Johno took the shot with his UV launcher at Ingrid but the male vampire warned her and deflected the shot with a silver tray laying on the table. Vlad and the Count came up in the commotion and Johno prepared to take another shot but then Bertrand shut the door. "I thought you said there were no new vampires." Johno said to Mina.

"They must have been recruiting." She guessed. "Let's go. We'll come back with reinforcements."

The new vampire they spotted was Erin's brother Ryan who Ingrid had bit while on her run away from Stokely. He's the reason she got blood poisoning and she's the reason Erin showed up.
