Epilogue

Once I got Lucan back to Salidor I had to hurry. I rushed into the castle on the back of Shadow and made haste to his room. I thought of this highly dangerous spell that just might save Lucan's life even at the cost of my own. I laid him down on his bed and had Miala and Shadow rush through the castle waking up everyone. They lead them back to his room as I finished my preparation for the spell. I even wrote a letter to Astrid and Bartelo in case I died. I was going to save Lucan no matter the cost! Miala knew of my intentions....she could feel it from my energy. Once everyone was present she looked at me with sadness in her eyes. "I have to do this Miala I have to save him!" I said. She licked my face letting me know she understood. I broke the seal over the lamp I took from the goblin chief I wondered why it didn't go out then I realized it was enchanted. It still had a hold on Lucan's soul despite the antidote. I opened the spell book and began to read the incantation. "Asal iroma, saskil de le malaga, emorate ha se le se, icaroga de ate sombrier. From the shadows of the deep to the light of the heavens I beseech you. Return to us Lucan. Return to us whole and well. Your time is not up! Fight your battle and win!" I said then they all fell into a deep slumber minus me. I laid down next to Lucan and touched his chest with my right hand as it was engulfed in light. "Asul iroma saskil de le agrier. Emorate ha se le se, icaroga de ate lameier. Your guiding angel appears shielded you from harm. The Lost Prince has been found and now must return to the living, free of burdens" I said. Then like like a flicker from a torch I fell asleep next to Lucan. Pain shot through my body but I knew I had done it right when the angel shielded him from the smog that instead engulfed me. "Your burdens are mine now. Live free, love passionately, and burn ever bright" I said.

"Thank the gods it worked" I said as Lucan opened his eyes then I fell limp. "RANIER!" He cried. Then I was adrift in an endless void. Nothing could help me. I had done my duty, I had rescued Lucan and took his burdens onto myself. The pain was immensely strong, but I took it in stride. "He is free....at last" I said. I closed my eyes allowing myself to be swallowed up by the darkness that encroached upon me. When suddenly I felt a push and opened my eyes to see my mother pulling me away from the darkness her hair was messy and tangled up but she had a smile on her face. Behind me was a woman with long blonde hair and brown eyes wearing a white dress. "What!" I said. Then I heard Lucan reciting the spell but different. "I love you with all my heart return to me" he said. "He is waiting for you" mother said. "Best not keep him waiting" the woman behind me said as together they pushed me up and into light. I was back, being held in Lucan's arms surrounded by his family along with Miala and Shadow. "How..." I began before a kiss from Lucan hushed me. "Love is the most powerful magic there is" he said. "Your not escaping me that easily" he continued. I kissed him again as everyone cheered. The next day a party was thrown in the castle and everyone in town was invited. I walked out to the staircase hand in hand with Lucan, a crown on my head as Miala and Shadow looked on from the castle walls. They howled loudly before darting off into the forest. "She finally sees you are somewhere safe" Lucan said. "I have you....that's all she's ever wanted for me" I said. "She'll be fine wherever life takes her she'll always be welcomed back here" he said and kissed me. After the party weeks went by, months even and I never saw Miala again. I missed her however one night I heard her howl from behind the castle. I raced to the sound only to find a single wolf pup curled up in a ball. She had a black stripe down her back and silvery white fur. I looked into the trees to see Miala's blue eyes staring back at me from a few yards away. She brought me her pup, I smiled at her and she howled once more awakening the pup who howled back. She had red eyes like Shadow which lead me to believe she was his pup as well. "Take care of yourself Miala. I'll miss you so much thank you for this gift. I'll take good care of her" I said. She then approached me and touched her face to mine. A single tear trickled down my face and onto her fur where it instantly froze like a beautiful diamond. One last lick for me and her pup then Miala darted back into the woods disappearing into the night. I brought the pup up to mine and Lucan's room and he petted her. "Miala's gift to us" he said. "I'll miss her but I'll always have her in my heart and now in this pup" I said. "Well what should we name her?" He asked. "Amila" I said. "I think that's beautiful Ranier" he said and kissed me.
