"How much did you drink?"

Haein looked up to Hyunwoo at his question. He had regained his consciousness much to her relieve.

"That should be the least of your concern." She furrowed her eyebrows.

Hyunwoo winced at the piercing pain whilst Haein barely reacted. It wasn't out of the ordinary where Hyunwoo would randomly show up with blood from time to time.

But every time he does, Haein felt her heart drop.

"What happened this time?" Hae In looked up to him as soon as she was done covering the knife stab across the lower part of his abdomen.

"Someone was following me here. I got distracted that he got to me first." He revealed rather calmly.

"That's unlike you." Hae In pointed out.

"Why did you want to see me earlier? Did something happen?" He was quick to change the topic. Also, as a matter of fact, it was unlike Haein to call for an appointment with him since they usually see each other at home anyway.

"I'm not sure. I must have just wanted to see your face." She shrugged it off making his eyebrows furrowed. Hyunwoo wasn't buying it.

"What's with the flowers and food anyway? You know I hate eating alone and the flowers are going to wilt eventually." It was her turn to flip the topic.

"Just because...it was your birthday wasn't it?" He adjusted his posture as he leaned against the headboard.

"You remembered?" She raised her eyebrows.

"I was planning to have dinner with you to celebrate but things didn't go as I planned." He explained.

"I thought you forgot." Haein finds herself pouting unknowingly.

"Was that why you wanted to see me for lunch? To remind me?" Hyunwoo connected the dots rather easily.

Haein rolled her eyes.

"Rest, I'll go clean this up." She didn't want to dwell on the topic but Hyunwoo was quick to catch her wrist.

"I'm sorry. That you had to celebrate it alone...again."

They stared at each other for a good minute before Haein broke the exchange.

"Rest." She withdrew her wrist from his hand.

"Is there anything you want for your birthday?" He suddenly asked making Haein rather perplexed. Hyunwoo had never asked or in fact ever gave her a birthday day gift for as long as they were married. He never really remembered it to begin with or even has time for her.

"I should really thanked the guy that stabbed you because you don't seem to be in your right mind." Haein retorted making Hyunwoo chuckle but wince within seconds.

"Don't make me laugh, it hurts." He held onto his wounded abdomen.

"Serve you right." She spats crossing her arms despite the concern lingering in her eyes.

"I'm serious. So just tell me if there's anything you want from me for your birthday. I'll grant it." He assured.

"Anything?" Haein's interest perked.

Hyunwoo nodded.

...

"Is this really all you want?"

Haein hears him murmured as she feel his thumb drawing small circles on her shoulder.

"Mmm..." She responded, eyes closed.

"Wae? I mean we always cuddle." He pointed out.

"Just because...." She answered as a matter of fact.

"I heard from Secretary Jang that Grace was checking on my calendar for the IVF. Did mum mention it to you?" He asked.

Haein opened her eyes whilst she remained rested in his shoulder.

"She did." She answered shortly.

"You don't have to feel pressured. I'll take care of it. " He assured.

As a matter of fact it never bothered Haein. Hyunwoo always had his family within his reign anyway. To put it simply, she was well protected.

"Can you stop talking already? I'm sleepy." Haein mentions closing her eyes and snuggling close to him with a hand rested on his chest.

Hearing his calm heart beat was music to her ears.

"Happy belated birthday Haein-ah." She hears him wish before she drifted to dreamland.
