It was Hyunwoo's grandfather or rather the capo dei capi of the Baek family, Baek Joo Won's 80th birthday banquet the following night. Business partners both local and foreign flooded the mansion albeit it being an invitation only event.
Amongst the long list of guests was of course the Hong family.
Despite the union of the two families through Hyunwoo and Haein's marriage on the grounds of solidifying and ending the power struggle, it was well known within their circle that it was just a matter of time before things blow out of control between the two most powerful tycoons.
And with rumours of Hyunwoo being next in line instead of his father, everyone were on their toes. It wasn't unheard of when a generation is skipped in the succession line. However, it was well known that Baek Du Gwan had been eyeing to reign the throne for the longest time despite the obvious favouritism of the capo dei capi of the Baek family towards Hyunwoo instead.
"Aigoo, look who is here? My dear Haein." Baek Joo Won smiled from ear to ear upon the sight of his beloved granddaughter in law. Haein smiled as she reached out her hand to the elder as they shared a quick hug.
"You're looking as dashing as ever harabeoji." Haein complimented earning a hearty laugh from the elder. "You're flattering me again." He continued to laugh.
"It looks like I'm losing out again." Hyunwoo commented as soon as he joins the family. "Don't mind him. He's just jealous because I've been dotting on him my whole life until you came." Baek Joo Won was never one to conceal his favouritism even the one he shared with the sole heir of the Hong family.
"While you're on that abeonim, you should start convincing them to have a baby soon. It's been ages since they got married." Hyunwoo's mother chirps in whilst Haein forced a smile.
"I agree with you Bong-ae shi. I've been trying to convince our Haein for the longest but she just wouldn't listen." Now it was her own mother that had join in the 'make a baby' petition. "They are both young and healthy. I don't understand why they're taking so long just to make one."
Hyunwoo was quick to jump in when Haein felt his hand wrapped around her waist.
"We'll get there omma, ommoniem. I don't think there's a rush for it now." He fake a smile that Haein would've thought to be sincere had she not known how he was against the idea.
"Hyunwoo-ah, neither of you are getting younger. The longer you wait, the harder it would be to get a baby. Especially for Haein. I'm just stating facts here." His mother wasn't letting the topic get away.
"Since we're on the topic, I think meeting Baek Soobin by May of next year would be ideal." Baek Du Gwan jumps in the ship. "Baek Soobin? Wouldn't Hong Soobin sound better? I mean nowadays its common to have the child inherit their mother's surname instead of their father's right?" Hong Beom Jum's bold comment turned heads.
Having the heir in line inheriting the Hong family name would only mean that the Hong was going to take over the Baek family right after Hyunwoo inherits the family.
The air turn tight almost immediately but another heir's appearance debut made things more complicated than it already is.
Baek Jihyun
...
Haein heaves a sigh before stretching her neck. The banquet ended later than scheduled and she was primarily tired out having to socialised and put a front of being the daughter in law to the Baek family.
