The rain fell softly against the window, each drop sliding down like a tear she refused to shed. Jasmine sat in the dimly lit apartment in Seoul, her thoughts drifting far from the city she now called home. It had been almost a year since she left the United States—since she left him.
She pressed a hand to her stomach, feeling the gentle kick of life growing inside her. It was surreal, this new chapter she never expected. A chapter that began the day she walked away from Emil, the man she had once thought she would spend her life with.
Their love story had been something out of a dream. Meeting at university, they had been inseparable, building dreams together and supporting each other's ambitions. But somewhere along the way, the dream had turned into a nightmare. The fights had become more frequent, the silences more unbearable. And then there was Ruby—Jasmine didn't need to hear the details to know what had happened. The look in Emil's eyes when she confronted him had told her everything.
Leaving him was the hardest thing she had ever done. But staying would have been even harder. She had hoped that by leaving, she could find peace, maybe even forget the pain. But she hadn't expected this—a reminder of him growing inside her with each passing day.
Jasmine had never told Emil about the baby. She hadn't known herself until after she was already halfway across the world. And by then, the decision was made. She would raise this child on her own, far from the shadows of their broken relationship.
But even as she tried to convince herself that she was doing the right thing, a part of her couldn't help but wonder: Did he deserve to know? Would he care? Or was he too consumed by the life he had chosen, a life that no longer included her?
The thought of Emil haunted her, but it was the future that kept her grounded. She had to be strong, not just for herself but for the baby. They were all that mattered now.
As the rain continued to fall, Jasmine closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She was starting over, building a new life in a city that felt foreign and familiar all at once. It wouldn't be easy, but she had no other choice. She had left her past behind, and now she had to move forward—no matter what memories tried to pull her back.
With one last look out the window, Jasmine turned away, ready to face whatever came next
