“they’re insufferable. completely insufferable.” jungwon puffs his cheeks out as he angrily rants about his two, very oblivious friends. he’s seated next to jay in heeseung’s living room couch, jake to his left, and niki directly in front of him on the floor. jay sighs, throwing an arm around jungwon’s shoulders. “you’re honestly right. do you guys know how many times sunghoon has camped out in my texts fawning over sunoo?” jay continues, this time horribly mimicking sunghoon’s voice, “ oh my god jay have you seen the way sunoo looked like today? his little beret was so cute! and i wonder what chapstick he’s using, it looks pinker than usual… ” his voice cracks a little towards the end, causing their group of friends to laugh deliriously. jake chimes in not long after, though slightly less annoyed compared to jay. “sunoo’s just as bad. but you get used to it after a while.”

niki, who’s moved from where he sat to help heeseung hold the bowls of food to the living room, hums in reply. “we have to do something, or else we’ll suffer.”

it’s nothing new to find the group of friends complaining about sunghoon’s and sunoo’s feelings for each other. though as cute as they may seem, it’s getting tiring to watch the push and pull of their relationship. they always toe the line between platonic friends, and the i-have-an-insanely-massive-crush-on-you type of friendship. because as niki believes, platonic friends don’t look at each other as if their eyes held the galaxy. they don’t randomly intertwine their fingers together whilst kissing the crown of the other’s head, nor do they get jealous at the mention of their friend’s aforementioned crush (which, ironically enough, is them).

“but what though? lock them in a room until they eventually confess?” heeseung plops himself down on the arm of the sofa, completely deep in thought. “no, that’s too cliche. sunoo-hyung is way too smart and he’ll figure that one out instantly.” niki sighs in defeat, mind still racking for possible ideas. “i mean, there’s nothing wrong with going down the cliche route now, is there? to be fair, their entire relationship is cliche as hell,” jake replies pointedly, “that’s sickening.” he fakes a gagging expression, as if the thought disgusted him entirely (they’re cute, they really are. but at the same time, he can’t stand them).

jungwon bites the inside of his cheek; how can they push the two of them together? here’s the thing: he’s been trying for an entire year now, but somehow, nothing ever works. it’s like there’s a supernatural entity out there that’s absolutely against jungwon’s ideas and will simply not allow it to work. but jungwon knows that sunghoon and sunoo preferred doing things their way. he knows that they’d rather work through this together, one by one; slowly unravelling the ends of a never-ending knot. though, who’s to say he can’t help them a little? if it means that he can finally stop watching his best friends suffer and finally date, then he’d do whatever he can.

“let’s start small. you know, like let them know about each other’s feelings in a really subtle way, and let’s go from there.” jay ponders on jungwon’s suggestion as he pulls the younger boy closer to him. “and how do we go about doing that?” there’s a moment of silence after heeseung poses that question – the gears in each of their minds were working at full capacity, and there’s no doubt that they’re hoping their brains come up with a groundbreaking idea. “let’s try doing that. like, maybe if they start to realise each other’s feelings, the crushing weight of the information that we’ve given them is enough to make them start dating.” the rest of the boys nodded simultaneously as jay continued, “and if that doesn’t work, then we’re kinda screwed.”

“well we have to do something! or they’ll remain in this state forever. it’s like newton’s first law!” jake pumps a fist up into the air, gaining weird glances from the group. “i’m sorry, but i think i’m stupid. how exactly does this have to do with that?” heeseung looked at him sceptically, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. jake crosses his arms, lips pressed together firmly. “...basically they’re just going to stay in their oblivious state unless we push them together. that’s what i meant.”

“you literally should’ve just said that.”
