sunghoon watches as sunoo excitedly looks through the racks of clothing in the store, his tongue poking out slightly from the side. he has a few shopping bags in his hand, courtesy of sunoo, but he doesn’t really mind. “you know, i can’t believe each of them cancelled on us. they were the ones who planned this too,” sunoo looks up at sunghoon and proceeds to link their arms together. the older boy smiles hesitantly, there’s a nagging feeling at the back of his head that’s telling him to just tell sunoo the truth, but he decides against it (besides, how does he explain to the boy that the reason why all of their friends ‘coincidentally’ cancels out on them is that they’re trying to get them together?). “i know right ? they’re so weird,” sunghoon lies through his teeth, looking away from sunoo in fear that he’ll immediately catch on.

the mall was surprisingly decently busy for a sunday afternoon. chattering from the crowds filled their ears, but it was drowned out with their conversations. although, sunghoon wonders just how much of sunoo’s rambling he could hear, if not for the thundering of his heart in his chest. “oh my god hyung. you should have seen the look on seongmin’s face when he realised i was right, and that we did have a test that day,” sunoo flails his hands around animatedly, “it was hilarious! he looked like he was calculating his trajectory when he jumps off the classroom window to escape.” the boy wheezes in laughter at the memory, oblivious to the inner turmoil of the skater next to him.

sunghoon feels sunoo’s hands brush against his, softly, yet it was enough to send jolts of electricity through his arm. he hasn’t contributed much to their conversation, choosing to listen to the younger boy ramble about his week (sunoo doesn’t mind. he never did, and maybe that’s why sunghoon’s able to be so comfortable with him). a hand sliding into his breaks him out of his thoughts. sunoo’s intertwined their fingers together, tugging him towards a cafe tucked in the corner of the mall’s food court.

they find themselves standing in front of a sign at the entrance of the cafe. it was completely pink – the sickening kind, and sunghoon squinted his eyes as he read the words written in big, bold, white letters.

couple deal! buy a large milkshake with your partner and share a chocolate parfait for free!

he feels his eyes grow wide. sunghoon makes an attempt to peer at sunoo’s face from the side, but to no avail. he has absolutely no idea what the other boy was thinking, and that alone was enough to send him terrified. sunoo tugs his hand again, pulling him towards the lady at the counter. she had a kind smile, though sunghoon wondered if that was truly welcoming (the closer they got to her, and the closer he saw her smile felt like doomsday. currently, he’s praying to all the gods out there to perhaps spare him). “hi! we’re here for the couple deal? i’m here with my boyfriend and we’ve been looking forward to trying the chocolate parfait!” the lady smiles at them warmly as sunoo links his arm with sunghoon’s. the other boy stayed rooted at his spot, his brain short-circuiting.
