I began my scooter right after school and headed towards the laundryman - Mr frances dry-cleaning place.
Our neighborhood was soo small we considered ourselves neighbors.
I knew everyone's name and they knew mine.
But his laundry room was already closed when I went in.
*Gosh*
The next drycleaners shop was almost 30 blocks away.
I hissed.
Had I not gone ahead to bump into that bridgeball I would have been at home doing homework.
Thankfully, I sight a soul in the dark shop! It was Mr frances.
*Pls hold on sir it's me Mylah"
"We're closed for the day"
"I just need to dry clean this shirt it
" will only take few minutes""I don't make exceptions"
"Pls sir, it's a life or death situation"
Mr. Frances frowned.
He took a deep breath before opening the transparent glass door to the shop.I took out the bag with Nathan's clothes folded in them.(despite being dirty). Handing it over to Mr. Frances
I tell him I'd be coming tomorrow to get the clothes back and he nodded.*********
" Bro,"
" I'm back!"
I shouted.
As loud as possible, my brother was always on his laptop and his head phones were always in use.
*Not playing games, but rather studying.*
"I'm in my room" he replied.
Not too long after I heard footsteps down our small rented apartment.
It was Ian's. He wore his long sleeved hoodie with shorts that reached past his knee.
"You're back" he picked up a bar of chocolate and took a bite.
I just returned from my night shift at the grocery store. Right after school; I changed my clothes, into my white shirt, blue jeans and white sandals, handing over my shoulders a brown purse.
After work I took home some of the expired products as I usually did.
"That's expired," I say smirking
He froze. Dropping the bar on the table. " I know," he continued " How was your first day at school?"
I sigh.
*He just reminded me of the worst day ever.*
I feigned a smile.
"It uhm..went well."
"Then why you stuttering?" He frowned "You're seriously lying"
I coughed.
"No... I'm not!"
I quickly positioned myself.
"No." I said " it was okay"
Ian's povI nodded it off. Even though I knew something was off.
The lines on her forehead, the stuttering and the beads of sweat that grew on her forehead were all sighns of my sister lieing.I knew it was a tough decision for Mylah to go to Melshore high.
It might be the most magical fairy tale for ordinary people but for Mylah it's just a bigger burden for our parents .
We used to live together in the city as a family, life was hard and we struggled to make ends meet. I got into university but Dad didn't have the money to pay for my entrance fees. So he went took a loan .
Think that was when all our problems just began.
Soon enough it was time to pay and we didn't have the money he got beaten up soo badly by loan sharks that had was hospitalized.Mylah, mom and I had to do all our best to earn money for dad's treatment. That was how Mylah started participating in educational competitions from age 14.to earn little money.I started working part time in a newspaper company.
Thankfully in a period of 2 months we were able to pay the hospital bills. We paid the loan soon enough but the interest was soo high that we couldn't gather it up till now.
Dad and mom had to relocate to their town to continue the family business.
While Mylah and I stayed and rented a small apartment close to both her school and mine.
"You haven't even made dinner"
Mylah said childishly.
"What to cook..what to cook"
She said searching our half empty fridge. She takes out a few eggs some milk and a can of baked beans ."What are you planning on doing this time?" I asked
"Hey ! I don't know, it's you who couldn't make a good budget for our food supply "
"Don't bring that up"
"Then don't ask me what I'll cook" she playfully held up a large cooking spoon in my face.
"You're not even that good of a cook" I continued "How do you eat your food?"
She shook her head and walked up to me, taping my shoulders she says
"I'm so much better than you"
"By the way aren't you going to your friends place anymore?"
I nodd a 'no' straight up.
"Well I wanted to use you laptop since you aren't leaving anymore can I borrow it?"
"Sure" I watched her smile widen as I stood to get to my room.
*My sis has the sweetest most annoying soul*
