I guess we all were a little baffled, because for the first ten minutes or so, no one said a word. We just walked in silence and stared at the very barren landscape surrounding us. Or stole glimpses of the two phoenixes among us. This world was eerily silent, too, which kind of freaked me out. The colors were a little off, like everything had been painted over with a cold, yellowish hue, and when I tried to look into the distance, the landscape vanished into a thin mist all around us.

So yeah, we were too busy keeping an eye on our surroundings to say a word. At least I didn't spot any kind of creatures besides us in this place.

Jaden stayed right next to me the entire time, walking so close I kept bumping into him. His need to protect me was stronger than before, and it had a lot to do with my broken spirit. I was still feeling quite fine, but walking around sure wasn't doing me any good. The pain wasn't getting worse, but I had the feeling that it would change at some point. I just had to bear with it. I didn't really have any other options.

It didn't help that we were constantly walking uphill... It wasn't too steep, but it was wearing me down quite fast. I gritted my teeth and kept going without complaining, but mostly because we could see the top of the hill just up ahead. Only a few minutes, then this climb would end.

And soon enough, we reached the top of the hill. Everyone immediately stopped to stare at the landscape reaching far into the endless distance. The beginning of the river was also there, and I knew I wasn't the only one who had to blink twice when we realized what we were looking at.

It wasn't quite what I'd expected.

"So... The rules of physics don't apply here?" Jack commented as we stared at the most massive waterfall I had ever seen looming in the far distance.

And there was nothing else. The massive column of water was falling straight down from the sky. There were no mountains, nothing that could've supported it. It just emerged from within the clouds.

"There it is," Fenrir said. "That river leads us to Hades' home.

"It'll take us a day to reach it," Cameron said. "We better keep moving."

"A day...?" I repeated.

Jaden turned to me. "I'll carry you," he offered.

"Not yet," I told him with a chuckle. "Let me keep my dignity for a little while longer."

"What's wrong with being carried by your mate?" Jaden asked with a frown, so I took a better look at him.

He actually didn't seem bothered at all by this world of death... Like he knew the place already. But he did know the place already, right...? He was part of Cerberus, and this world was his home. But that didn't explain why Tilly and Arch weren't feeling as confident as he was.
