I woke up to my comforter covering me, a very quiet room and a text from Michael thanking me for letting him sleep at my house.
I rolled over and pulled the covers over my head
"Get up we need to practice gig is tomorrow" Cats voice boomed in my aging head.
"You have to be nicer than that" Elliot suggested.
"Nah" I heard Skylar. Followed by somebody jumping on top of me.
"Close the door" I mumbled and Elliot did.
"Why are you sleeping so late?" Skylar asked
"Michael stayed the night"
"And I wasn't invited?" Cat said throwing her hands in the air.
"Is this real life?" She added.
"We didn't fuck" I reassured a worried Skylar.
"Why the hell not?" Elliot yelled.
I laughed and sat up.
"Let's just go practice" I climbed out of bed and grabbed my guitar.
Two hours in and we were getting there slowly.
Michael: hey, thanks again. The guys loved you last night and think we should all hang out again. Tomorrow sound good?
Me: I actually kind of have a thing tomorrow..
Michael: an actual thing? Or a I never want to see you again thing.
Me: a music thing
Michael: like a gig?
Me: yes a gig, you could come? It would be fun!
Michael: yeah! I'll see what we're doing.
Me: alright just let me know tonight! I'll save you a seat ;)
"Off your phone Chris"
"We need to practice"
"I just want to take a nap" everyone commented and I put my phone down and went back to practice with a permanent smile on my face. That smile lasted until I went to bed that night. And it slowly diminished into a blank stare after I woke up the next morning, and then evolved into a slight frown seven minutes before the show.
"Hey everyone! Thankyou for coming, first we Are going to be playing a cover of I miss you by blink 182" I announced our first song.
We played an hour and a half and I smiled and laughed and tried to ignore the nerves. At 10:30 my slight frown broke into a few tears. Because Michael never showed, or warned. And I didn't know him long but I couldn't shake the feeling that I wouldn't see him for a long time after that.
