Wanda's eyes fluttered open, her head pounding as she slowly regained consciousness. The forest clearing was eerily quiet now, the vortex's roar replaced by an unsettling silence. Her body ached with the aftermath of the battle, but she forced herself to focus. Strange was beside her, his face strained and his eyes scanning the area with a mix of relief and concern.
"Wanda!" Strange's voice cut through the haze. "Are you alright?"
Wanda sat up, her vision clearing as she took in the devastation around her. The forest was scarred, the ground scorched and littered with debris. The vortex had vanished, leaving only a residual dark energy that seemed to linger in the air. She scanned the area frantically, her heart pounding as she searched for Y/N.
Strange began to cast a spell, his magic weaving intricate patterns as he worked to dispel the residual dark energy. Wanda struggled to her feet, her legs unsteady, and stumbled toward the center of the clearing where the vortex had once been.
"Where's Y/N?" Wanda's voice trembled, desperation clear in her tone. "Where's the doppelgänger?"
Strange's expression grew somber as he approached Wanda. "The vortex has closed. We couldn't contain it entirely. Y/N... Y/N and the doppelgänger were pulled into it. I'm sorry, Wanda."
Wanda's breath caught in her throat as she took in Strange's words. A wave of grief washed over her, her knees buckling as she sank to the ground. The reality of Y/N's sacrifice hit her like a physical blow. Y/N had fought bravely, and now they were lost to the vortex.
"No..." Wanda whispered, tears streaming down her face. "No, it can't be."
Strange knelt beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "They went through with the second plan, she knew what she did. While I tried closing the vortex, I saw their determination. They saved everyone. They sacrificed themselves for the greater good."
Wanda's mind raced back to the moments before the vortex closed, the sight of Y/N's determined face as they confronted the doppelgänger. She remembered their final words, the apology they had uttered, and the resolve in their eyes. Y/N had faced their end with courage and selflessness, and Wanda felt a profound sorrow for their loss.
Despite her grief, Wanda knew that Y/N's sacrifice had been made with the intention of ensuring their safety. The doppelgänger was gone, and the threat had been neutralized. But the cost was heavy, and Wanda could feel the weight of Y/N's sacrifice pressing down on her.
Strange continued to work on dispelling the dark energy, his magic creating a more stable environment. Wanda stood slowly, her eyes scanning the clearing for any sign of Y/N. But there was nothing—only the remnants of the battle and the lingering echoes of the vortex.
As the dark energy dissipated, the forest began to show signs of recovery. The once-damaged trees and scorched earth slowly started to heal, the natural world beginning to reclaim its place. Wanda took a deep breath, trying to steady herself amidst the sorrow.
"Nobody even knows that they saved the universe," Wanda said quietly, her voice filled with sorrow.
Strange nodded, his own expression reflecting the gravity of the situation. "We will. We'll ensure that their actions are remembered and that their sacrifice was not in vain."
Wanda took one last look at the clearing, the place where Y/N had fought so bravely. The silence now seemed more profound, a testament to the sacrifice made. She knew that Y/N's memory would be honored, and their legacy would live on through the safety they had ensured for others.
"Are you going to be okay?" Strange asks as he makes a portal back. Wanda sighs. "I don't know, how can you be okay when you haven't told the person you love, that you love them." Strange turns around stepping towards Wanda. "I don't know, you just live your life."
"Easier said then done." Strange gives a small laugh. "Yeah, if there is anything I can do for you Wanda."
Wanda gives a force smile. "Thanks." Strange nods and walks into the portal.
She looks around the open field. The birds start chirping and for some reason Wanda could feel the presence of Y/N even though she was gone. She hasn't even said goodbye, she said they would do this together, they would stay together. Tears appear in her eyes, but she tries to stay strong. She don't want to let them fall, but holding her emotions didn't work. She couldn't breath, her vision becomes blurry as she falls to the ground.
She doesn't know what time it is, only that the sun went down.
With a heavy heart, Wanda turned away from the clearing, trying to start her life, living the life Y/N wanted her to live.
