Day one/7 AM
Kira manoeuvred her car in a small gravelled parking lot, and as soon as she killed the engine, she heard a harsh knock on the rear window and a voice that screamed an excited:
"Hey, Kira!"
"Oh, Jenny, nice to meet you!" Kira got out of the car and hugged friend as a greeting.
"Nice to meet you, too! I'm very excited! Did you bring the tent?"
"Of course I did, my Husband purposefully brought it down from the attic..."
She shot a quick look around them and added: "I have to warn you, it smelled so old and musty that I had to take it outside. With hope that the fresh air would damp that smell a bit, but I can't guarantee that it worked."
Jenny chuckled. "No thing, we only sleep in there anyway. Let's go."Together they unpacked all their stuff, paid for parking and then started walking through the little village until they got on a shingly footpath.
Day two/7.32 AM
Kira was awake. She felt a sharp pain right behind her eyes. But when she tried to open them, she couldn't. Panic rose up her chest, her heart beating like it wanted to escape. Thought after thought crossed her mind, running like scared horses in her head, the hooves hammering on her skull, crashing the bone and every sane reasoning for this crazy situation.
She screamed in fear, but only a muffled cry came over her lips, damped by the towel in her mouth. Trembling and now almost suffocating, gasping for oxygen. Kira coughed.
How did she get here? Tears ran down her cheek, hot rivulets.
Coughing and gasping again.
Air, air, I can't breathe! I CAN'T BREATHE, her mind shouted exigently.
Her chest seemed too tight, she struggled heavily, curled and tried with all her power to get free as she choked on her own saliva. She struggled and somehow managed to catch a few hasty breaths and calm a bit down. Still sobbing and trembling like a delicate leave in the wind, Kira finally got conscious of her surroundings. Or at least the ground she lay on.
Wood.
A wooden floor.
She noticed the pain in every limb. Shallowly breathing, she began sorting her thoughts and what could have happened. She barely remembered.
But there was a feeling.Day one/8 AM
The area they were walking through was quiet, not a single living soul could be seen and the only proof of human existence were some apart-falling hovels, not even big enough to stand upright. Jenny said that these surely were used as stables for animals like goats or maybe cows. The sun shone bright and the friends began to sweat as the footpath got narrower and steeper. "God, it's too hot...And this in the morning!", Jenny complained. "Look, there we'll get into a forest!", Kira said and took a big step over a loose stone. Jenny made a face but stopped whining.
Rays of sunshine broke through the hanging branches of the firry forest. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Jenny nodded. "It is."
Day two/10.12 AM
Jenny woke up to a strange smell. It burned in her throat and she felt a headache coming up because of it. As she opened her eyes and rose her head, she found herself lying on a wooden floor. Dirt was everywhere and the wood itself was ragged, sharp splinters had pierced deep into her skin. She groaned.
The realisation hit.
"Kira?", shouted Jenny, precipitately looking around. She jumped to her feet and the sudden movement caused her to hit her head at the low ceiling, sending a stinging ache down her spine. "Ow!", she cried out, but instantly got out the damaged door. "Kira!", she limped around the run-down shack as quickly as the dense undergrowth and her injured leg allowed. The tall grass was slippery, from the still pouring rain. Jennys vision got blurry from all the water that ran down her hair and dripped in her eyes. "Kira, where are you?", she screamed.
