"Your Majesty!" An elf guard ran in to Mirkwoods throne room where Thranduil was talking with high ranking elves from Rivendell.

Thranduils eyes looked at the guard running towards him.

"His majesty Bard is having another episode, we are urging for you to hurry there!" The guard said in a hurry.

Thranduil shot up from his throne and started running towards his and Bards chambers leaving the elves from Rivendell alone.

Bard had gotten old as humans do, he was also sick. From time to time he would start coughing blood and despite all the medicine and magic performed by Tilda and other elves, nothing could be done. Bard was just simply old and his time was coming to an end.

Thranduil almost ran through the doors trying to reach Bard in time if the worst would come. When he finally got there the episode had passed and Bard was still alive.

"Bard! A-are you alright?" He knelt down beside the bed where Bard was sitting taking his hand in to his.

"Yes Thranduil. Everything is fine, I am just getting old. I am afraid I do not have much time to be by your side anymore. I apologize." Bard smiled weakly.

Thranduil looked at Tilda looking for some hope when in his heart he knew nothing could be done anymore.

Tilda shook her head. "I will leave you two alone father." She bowed and left.

Thranduil looked at Bard with tears in his eyes. In their years being together Thranduil had really cared for Bard and was angry at himself for falling in love with a human knowing this would happen sooner or later.

"Thranduil it is alright. I am 79 years old, I have lived a good life and there is nothing I regret. I have won a war, I have three beautiful children. One is a king, One is a teacher and one is a magic healer. I have found true love twice and both times it has been something truly beautiful." Bard said smiling squeezing Thranduils hand.

Thranduil was quiet for a while looking at Bards thin hands. "Bard, would you do me the honor of being my company on a journey to Valinor." He asked with no regret in his voice.

"Oh Thranduil, you have no need to leave this world behind you. You can still live even if I am not here." Bard said.

"I know that but have lived for so long, I am ready to leave this world and begin my life at the next. But I need to know if you will you accompany me there?" He asked hopefully.

Bard smiled as brightly as he could. "I would love to, my love." He responded kissing Thranduils hand.

Thranduil smiled. "You look tired, it is best if you sleep now. I will make the preparations for our journey." He kissed Bards hand and helped him under his covers before leaving their chambers.

Someone was waiting for him outside and they locked their eyes. It was Legolas.

"You think it is time for him and you to leave?" He asked looking into his fathers eyes.

"He does not have much time and I also want to part with this world, I am old enough." Thranduil said.

"Then so be it." Legolas sighed. "No one can stop you if you have made your mind father. I assume you are leaving in a few days?"

"Yes, Bard does not have much time left."

Legolas nodded he then turned around and left. Bard had been a close friend of his for a long time in human years and now he was going to part with both his father and his friend.

*****

Few days later Bard and Thranduil walked hand in hand to a shore where a ship was waiting for them. Bards children were not there, Tilda was the only one who knew and Bard had sworn her to keep it this all a secret until he had already left. Tilda had asked to come with them to say goodbye but Bard had rejected the idea. He knew Tilda was upset about it but he also knew she would come to understand when it was her time to go.

But Legolas had come with them to make sure their journey would be a safe one. When he would get back to Mirkwood he would be crowed king. That made him feel uneasy but he was willing to do this if it meant giving his father peace.

Bard stopped right before getting on the boat turning to face Legolas for the final time. "Thank you for coming with us Legolas. It has truly been a fun life to share with you even if it was for a short while for you."

"No, thank you Bard. I will always remember this, you have taught me a lot." Legolas said with sincerely.

"Please do look after my family, make sure they live well." Bard asked as his final wish.

"I will Bard, I will." Legolas promised.

Bard looked at Thranduil before walking to the ship leaving him behind giving him and Legolas some space to talk. Although he was certain there were not many words the two would say to eachother.

Thranduil looked at Legolas. "Thank you, Legolas Greenleaf, son of Thranduil and the king of the woodland realm." Thranduil bowed and turned  himself towards the ship looking at Bard who was dressed in beautiful white elven made robes. "Goodbye." He said before walking away getting on the ship and taking Bards hands in to his own walking to the bow of the ship looking ahead of them.

The ship then departed leaving Legolas alone in silence to the shore watching as the two faded away.

"Goodbye father." Legolas said before turning away.

The end.

Thank you for reading this far, this is the end of Thranduils and Bards story and I think they had their happy ending. I would love to hear some feedback if you have some. Although I am pretty sure I will be retiring for a moment, it is unlikely I will stop writing all together as I still have some unfinished stories but I won't be updating for a while.

But Thank you again!
