Marcus
"How ya doing?" Ezra asks.
"Better," I respond, and I sit up.
"Good," He stands up and stretches, before looking around. "How did I manage to forget about the water?"
I cringe as I realize all my clothes are soaked and I stand up, as well. "This kinda really sucks."
"Pfft, how did you get completely drenched? Even I managed to keep my hair and shirt pretty dry," He laughs.
"If I knew that then I wouldn't be wet!" I grumble and cross my arms. He rolls his eyes and takes my hand.
"Come on, we can come back tomorrow and look but we should probably head back," he advises.
"I'm not about to say no to leaving this stupid library," I say, already making my way towards the exit.
"Not all libraries are bad, you just didn't have a good experience with this one," Ezra comments. I glare at him but he just raises his eyebrows in challenge.
I sigh in defeat, "Whatever, Nerd, you can have your book fun."
"What the hell is book fun? Also I wear the title Nerd as a badge of honor," he says proudly.
I ignore him and I wade out into the afternoon light, "Oh sweet, sun. I missed you so much!"
"The ceiling of the library is made out of glass, you realize that right?"
"Shut up."
"Never." Ezra smirks at me, and I stick my tongue out at him. He frowns unamusedly in response, "You're a child."
"Rather be a child than an adult," I retorted.
"Same, adulting sounds like it sucks," He nods.
"My dad tried explaining taxes to me the other day, it was rough," I add. He laughs and I smile on the inside. Making him happy felt good.
"You should spend the night at my house, it'll be fun. You were even complaining earlier about always hanging out at your house," he proposes.
I shrug, "I can ask my parents."
"Cool, I should probably let Gramps know," he pulls out his phone and starts tapping on it. I do the same and I press on my mom's contact, out of the two she's most likely to say yes.
"He won't mind?" I ask, my parents would freak out if I invited a friend over without telling them.
"Nah, he likes when people come over so he can tell em' random facts," and he puts his phone away.
"I like his facts, he always tells me ones about plants though," I say.
"He likes his plants, he likes you too," Ezra mentions casually. I can feel the heat rising to my cheeks.
"I-. What?"
"Let's get out of the flood water, maybe we can drip dry."
I open my mouth to say something but I give up and follow him out of the water.
"What did your parents say?" Ezra asks. I glance at my phone and see the notification.
"She said yes," I lied through my teeth.
"Cool," Ezra smiles. She'll get over it, it's summer I should be able to hang out with my friends later. "Oh by the way, Gramps is stopping by the store. Do you want anything?"
I shake my head and he shrugs, "Suit yourself I'm asking for s'mores."
