"... Sam? Why are you... oh." Damien says, before freezing in place. The two stare at each other silently, Sam cringing at the name when he remembers the ear piece. Surprisingly, there's only silence. He isn't entirely sure what to do, so he closes the door behind him and takes a few steps forward, pointing at the ear piece. Damien stares quietly, and gives a small nod."B-13, I uh... thought you were someone else. Did you need something?" Damien asks, trying to sound as casual as possible. Sam takes a deep breath, preparing the confrontation in his mind.
"I've been sent here to investigate you. There's been reports of suspicious activity and you're at the center of it."
"Suspicious?"
"Yeah..." Sam answers and trails off. His heart is racing, and his thoughts are a mess. Where does he go from here? Damien gives him a worried look, and Sam just stares back, thinking hard. He finally sighs.
"Damien, I can't do this. I can't kill you, and I can't pretend like I'm going to. Being here after that night really drove home how shitty it is. Please... let's get out of here." He finally says, taking out the ear piece and tossing it aside. Damien suddenly smiles.
"Really? I'm ready if you are, we can get out of here right this second!"
"We better, they're gonna come after us." Sam walks over and stands near Damien, who's still smiling.
"Say no more. Just one minute and our ride should be here." Damien says, sending a message on... a strange device he pulled out of his pocket. It almost looks like a phone.
"What in the world..."
"Don't worry, I'll explain later. I can't explain it here or it'll cause trouble." He responds. Sam just nods. He can hear some distant shouting.
"Damien..."
"Just a second, I promise she won't be late."
"... she?"
As Sam asks, there's a great big flash of light not too far from the window. An entire vehicle comes through, whirring and hovering like a helicopter. A Riftwalker with black rabbit ears and a mask can be seen inside, and another Riftwalker is piloting it.
"Damien what the fuck??"
"That's Black Rabbit, a friend from work! My actual work, anyhow." He drops his disguise, horns appearing with a red glow and tail flicking out from under his shirt. The magic gives Sam the chills, but he's not put off about it or anything. "Come on, we gotta get going!" Before Sam can respond, Damien has his hand and runs toward the window. The vehicle is close enough now that they'll make the jump, but Sam isn't too excited about doing it. The door to the office busts open, and as they breach the window Sam can see B-01 standing in the doorway.
His eyes are locked onto Sam, his pupils a pinpoint and a blank look on his face. Sam shudders, and turns his focus on landing in the vehicle. The woman in there that Damien referred to as Black Rabbit helps them make their landings, and she signals to the driver. By now, a crowd has gathered outside to watch the spectacle. Many of the soldiers are freaking out, some running back inside for weapons and others almost climbing over each other to chase the vehicle despite it being airborne. Sam sees a pair of orange eyes staring innocently up at them, and gasps.
"Damien! Hold on, Alex! I can't leave Alex behind!" He grabs Damien's arm and points to Alex who's standing at the front of the crowd, watching in awe. Damien looks around the crowd of soldiers, and glances at Black Rabbit.
"Hey... how much compensation to go grab that blondie down there?" He says, chuckling nervously. The woman peers over them to see who he's talking about, golden eyes flicking around the field behind her mask, and thinks for just a moment. She pats Damien on the shoulder and pushes both of them aside. Sam can now see that her legs are Rabbit legs, black fur and some sharp claws on each foot. She crouches down for a moment, and hops straight out of the vehicle.
