The sun was setting over Oakridge, casting long shadows on the football field as Alex and Jamie squared off.

“Ready to get your butt kicked, ‘Champ’?” Jamie taunted, her hands on her hips. She was known for her sharp wit and unyielding confidence.

Alex smirked, adjusting his cleats. “Oh, is that what you’re calling yourself now? I thought we were going to keep ‘Captain Clumsy’ for you.”

Jamie rolled her eyes. “And I suppose you’re ‘Superstar’ again? Maybe you should stick to something more fitting, like ‘Mr. Always-Overconfident.’”

Alex grinned. “Well, ‘Ms. Tactical-But-Always-Loses’ seems to suit you perfectly.”

Jamie snorted. “Good one, but at least I don’t need a trophy to validate my skills.”

Alex raised an eyebrow. “Oh, is that why you’re always so focused on strategy? Afraid you’ll need a plan to make up for your lack of natural talent?”

Jamie laughed, shaking her head. “Keep talking, ‘Professor Perfection.’ We’ll see who’s got the real game when the whistle blows.”

As they took their positions on the field, their banter continued, each jibe a playful nudge in their ongoing rivalry. Both were ready for a new season, eager to show the other just how wrong they could be.
