season 1 episode 2: the first cut is the deepest

Hallie wakes up in her hotel room, she sits up in the semi comfortable bed. She stretches all her tired muscles from the shift the day before. She gets out of bed to take a shower, when she's done with that she puts on some clothes and then she gets something quick to eat. Before heading out the door, she needs to leave now if she wants to be able to go to her favorite coffee shop before work.

Hallie had it okay living in a hotel room at the start, but now she kind of wants something more permanent. She makes her way through the lobby and smiles at some of the people there.

"I really need to find my own place ASAP." Hallie says to herself.

After stopping for coffee on the way in, Hallie just about makes it to work on time. She quickly goes to the locker rooms and changes into her scrubs, and pulls her hair into a ponytail. She then decides to go look for her friends.

She finds Meredith, Izzie and George first, and when she gets closer Meredith gives her a pleading look. Both George and Izzie have pleading looks on their faces. Slowly Hallie makes her way over to her friends and asks "what's going on guys?" "She's looking for roommates. And she won't even consider us" Izzie says back while George just stands and nods his head.

"I mean, I do need a place to live but hey. If Meredith wants to find someone else, then there's really nothing we can do you guys." Hallie says to the two others. Meredith looks at Hallie with gratitude in her eyes. And Hallie just gives her a bright smile back.

"We're together 100 hours a week. Do you really want to live together? Anyway I only have 2 rooms and then an attic" Hallie thought about how she could easily live in an attic, but then again it's not her choice to make, it's Meredith's.

Cristina walks up to the rest of the group and points at what's in Meredith's hand "no. Ooh, you're bringing bribes now?" Meredith slightly rolls her eyes "I need a place to live. My mom irons my scrubs. I have to get out of there." George says, Hallie pats him on the back and gives him a comforting smile.

"It's not a bribe" Meredith says while looking at Cristina, she then turns to George and says "I don't think it's a good idea."

"I can put down last, first and deposit" George says to Meredith, Cristina then joins the conversation again by saying "it's totally a bribe."

Hallie kind of zones out after that until she hears Dr. Bailey's voice and springs into action. "George, you're running the code team, Meredith, take the trauma patients, Cristina, deliver the weekend lab to the patients, Izzie, you're on sutures. And Halston..." Hallie's trying to hold in her excitement "you've been requested. Today you are on Dr. Shepherds service." Hallie's eyes widened at that as did the other interns. They all feel some sort of jealousy but come on it's Hallie no one can stay mad at her for long.

Meredith begins to follow behind Dr. Bailey and says "Dr. Bailey. I was hoping to assist you in the OR today, maybe do a minor procedure? I think I'm ready. Mocha latte?" She then holds up the latte for Dr. Bailey to grab. Cristina chimes in "if she gets to cut, I want to cut too." Izzie agrees and George says "I wouldn't mind another shot, I mean if everybody else is..." Dr, Bailey looks to the only intern that didn't speak up and Hallie just raises a perfectly shaped eyebrow.

"Stop talking. Every intern wants to perform their first surgery, that's not your job. Do you know what your job is? To make your resident happy. Do I look happy? No. Why? Because my interns are whining. You know what will make me look happy? Having the code team staffed, having the trauma patients answered, having the weekend labs delivered, and having someone down in the Pit, doing the sutures, and having an attending steal one of my interns for the day" She then grabs the mocha latte and turns around to leave but doesn't go without saying "No one holds a scalpel until I'm so happy I'm Mary freakin' Poppins."
