The morning after their virtual dinner...
Viviene lingered in bed longer than usual. Sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room. Her phone lay on the pillow beside her, still open to Regina's last message from the night before:
Regina: "Sleep well, beautiful. Tonight was unforgettable. I can't wait for next time. Sweet dreams, V."
Viviene traced the words with her eyes for the hundredth time, her chest fluttering with a mix of warmth and uncertainty.
She smiled at the message—couldn't help it—but even as her fingers hovered over the screen to reply, something held her back.
Was this real?
She rolled onto her back and stared at the ceiling, heart caught somewhere between excitement and a familiar weight of caution. Regina made her feel seen in ways she hadn't felt in years—maybe ever. Their conversations had depth, their banter had spark, and their chemistry felt... undeniable. And yet, they'd never even stood in the same room.
Could something that began behind a screen truly become more?
She sighed and set the phone down on the nightstand before pulling herself out of bed.

Later...
As the house bustled with the usual weekend chaos—Sophie arguing with Mia over bacon or sausage for breakfast, Max running around with a towel as a cape—Viviene moved through the motions of her morning, but her mind remained adrift.
In the quiet moment between loading the dishwasher and starting the laundry, she opened her laptop and logged into MedConnect, telling herself it was just to check a work message.
But the green dot next to Regina's name pulled her in like gravity.
She clicked.
Regina Sinclair is online.
Her fingers hovered above the keys.
Should I say something first? No—give her space. It's fine. We just talked last night.
But a message popped up before she could decide.
Regina: "Good morning, Viviene. I hope you woke up with a smile. I've been thinking about you."
Viviene stared at the screen. Her heart skipped, then stumbled. Regina's words were never careless—they were intentional. Thoughtful. Bold in a way Viviene admired but wasn't sure how to receive.
She typed a reply, paused, erased it. Tried again.
Viviene: "Morning! Last night was really lovely. You have a gift for making someone feel special."
A moment passed. Then:
Regina: "That's because you are."
Viviene closed the laptop abruptly and pressed her fingers to her temples. This was all moving faster than she'd expected. Faster than she should let it. There was a rhythm to her life—a delicate balance of work, motherhood, and emotional survival. She wasn't sure she was ready to let someone into that rhythm, especially someone she hadn't even met in person.
And still... she wanted to.

That evening...
Once the kids were in bed and the house quieted down, she poured herself a cup of tea and sank into the couch with her journal. A habit she'd returned to recently, hoping to make sense of everything stirring inside her.
