Sorry for the late Update Janemans....I'm so busy these days due to my two jobs but I promise this will be worth waiting. Without any further ranting, let's dive in.....
Aathiya's POV
After thanking Reyansh for dropping me off, I entered the house only to find it empty. Where was Aaru? It was already midnight, and my phone was dead. I quickly plugged it into the charger and headed for a shower.
When I got out, I immediately dialed Aaru's number. She picked up on the first ring.
"Hey, Aaru, where are you?" I asked, cutting her off before she could speak.
"Hi, miss, I'm sorry, but the owner of this phone is in the hospital," a male voice answered.
"What?"
"Yes, she was in an accident, and she's in the hospital right now." I could hardly comprehend his words.
"Please, tell me which hospital."
He gave me the address, and I barely managed to book an Uber with shaking hands. How could I have been so careless? If only I had charged my phone earlier. The ride to the hospital felt like an eternity, my mind spiraling into worst-case scenarios.
When I finally arrived, my breath caught in my throat as I saw Aaru lying unconscious in a hospital bed. A nurse stood nearby, along with a police officer. Aaru had a bandage wrapped around her head and a plaster cast on her leg. My heart sank at the sight of her.
"Hi, are you related to the patient?" the officer asked, his voice breaking through my daze.
"Yes, Officer, she's my friend," I managed to say.
"Alright. She was hit by a car. Thankfully, someone in the crowd called 911, and we got her here in time. We've been waiting for her family."
"Thank you... thank you so much, Officer. Her family... they're back home. She's an international student," I explained, struggling to keep my voice steady.
"Okay. Did someone hit her on purpose, or was there a fight?"
"No, I don't know anything like that."
"Hmm, alright. It's just that she has some concerning marks on her wrist. We'll come back later to investigate. Please provide your details."
Marks? What Marks? What was going on here? I gave them my information, and they left.
"Can you please call the doctor?" I asked the nurse, who nodded and went to fetch the doctor. I looked at Aaru's pale face, her closed eyes, and the dark red, almost purple, finger-shaped bruises on her wrist, as if someone had gripped her too tightly. Seeing her like this was unbearable. She had always been my source of strength, my sunshine. How could I handle seeing her like this?
The doctor arrived about ten minutes later. "What exactly happened to her, Doctor? And when will she wake up?"
"She has a fracture in her right leg. Luckily, her head is fine, just a minor injury there. We've given her some medication to help her sleep. She should wake up in a few hours."
"And how long will it take for her leg to heal?"
"Well, it depends on aftercare. With proper precautions and a good diet, it should heal in 6 to 8 weeks since it's not too severe."
"Thank you, Doctor."
"Please settle the payment at the reception."
"She has insurance that should cover this. Once she's awake, we can provide the details at the reception," I told her. She nodded and left. I got relieved that at least the financial burden was one less thing to worry about. I returned to Aaru's side, exhaustion weighing heavily on me. I didn't even realize when sleep finally claimed me. I woke up to the sound of Aaru's voice, soft but insistent.
