Thankfully the rest of my day and all my classes go by quickly and before I know it's time for all the students to head back to their dorms to get ready for dinner. Dinner means every girl wears a dress and every boy wears a suit. It's not amazing but it's kind of fun.
When I get to my room Harper is already seated at our vanity styling her hair her makeup is spread out in front of her ready to lose, it looks very fairy tail and a little silly but I'd never tell her that. Her dress is laid out on her bed and oddly a box rests on mine.
"What is that?" I ask pointing at the box on my bed.
"It's an early gift." She shrugs slightly as she applies mascara.
I'm about to say an early "Gift for what?" but then I remember the date.
"Harper you shouldn't have."
Her grin is clear through her reflection in the mirror, "I know but you always say that and you always end up liking what I give you. Plus it's your birthday in a few days, so it's not too early."
I walk towards my bed, where I spot the box is sitting on the edge of the mattress. The box is simple yet elegant, wrapped in a smooth and polished brown paper, and tied securely with a carefully knotted gold ribbon. As I slowly pull the ribbon, it unravels with a soft rustle, revealing the box's delicate contents. I lift off the lid, revealing a package carefully wrapped in soft, snow-white tissue paper. Harper glances at me with a mischievous smile as I carefully unwrap the package.
I take my time, carefully peeling away the tissue paper to reveal a beautifully crafted object inside. It's a stunning shade of blue, with a glossy finish that catches the light and sparkles like a jewel. The object seems to glow as I hold it in my hand, and I can't help but feel a sense of awe at its beauty. I take a step back, admiring the object from a distance, and can't help but feel grateful for the thoughtful gift.
Harper takes the object from my hands and holds it up. "Do you like it?" As she speaks the fabric unfolds itself more showing the stunning jumpsuit. The pants of the jumpsuit are flowing making them look like a skirt, no like a full dress.
"It cost a lot" My checks burn slightly but I know she's just being honest like she always is, "but I bet you'll look great in it." She pauses to see if I respond but when dont she goes on to say "It's a jumpsuit evening gown/elegant dress thingie and it's floor length with a short sleeve that only goes on one shoulder."
"I could have figured all that out by putting it on."
"I know." she tosses it to me and I nearly miss the catch. "Go get changed."
As per Harper's instructions, I exit our room and make my way to the girl's bathroom to change into my new outfit for dinner. The hallway is dimly lit, probably time to replace the bulbs again, but the soft glow from the sconces on the wall illuminates my path. I can feel the wood floor underfoot as I walk towards the bathroom. Upon entering, I take note of the sterile white tiles lining the floor. I quickly find an empty stall and begin to undress, folding each piece of clothing neatly and placing them into my laundry bag. I slip into the outfit easily and am in shock, like I am every time that she gets me clothing, that it fits like a glove. As I change, I can hear faint sounds of whispers from the other girls who were kicked to the bathroom tonight.
Once I'm finished, I exit the changing stall. When I step out of the changing stall several of the other girls turn their attention to me and start whispering. And of course, it's just my luck that the leader of the school is in the bathroom at the same time as me. Brie Mary Scarlett. Big name and an even bigger ego.
