Rhaegon and Laenas chambers
After having sex with Laena and Rhaenyra, Rhaegon poured himself some wine and sat on a chair. Both women were passed out from the pleasure that they received from Rhaegon.
"I swear it's as if your aim is to tire us out." Laena said when she walked to her husband.
"I promise it's not my goal, my wife." Rhaegon chuckled. Laena poured herself some wine and sat across from her husband. "Rhaenyra still asleep?" Rhaegon asked.
"Yes, she is." Laena answered. "Why are you here alone?"
"I couldn't sleep." Rhaegon said.
"Nightmares?" Laena asked.
"Just some thoughts running in my mind." Rhaegon said.
Laena smiled. "You can talk to me if you wish."
"I know, but it's nothing." Rhaegon said.
"I can tell when you're lying." Laena said. "If I guess what's bothering you, will you start opening up to me?" She asked.
"Very well." Rhaegon smiled.
"I think you're worried about your father. You see, you've forgiven him long ago, and you're afraid of losing him." Laena said. "You're far more affected by things than you care to admit. You wish to control things rather than to have it control you. The inevitable parts of life make you uneasy."
"Well, some say that death is inevitable, and yet here I stand after taking a sword through my heart and drinking the most expensive wine with my beautiful wife while my lover sleeps in our chambers. I share a combined force of six children. I am the perfect portrait of vitality and health. A conquerer of death itself." Rhaegon smirked.
"That's my point. You make it seem to think that death means nothing to you by making jokes. I'm sure you don't care about your own death, but you do care about the deaths of others." Laena said.
"So beneath all that strength, Rhaegon Targaryen has a fear of the ones closest to him dying?" Rhaegon chuckled. "I will tell you what I know about death, Laena. It dances silently in everyone's shadow, and he doesn't give a damn. So why would I give a damn about him?" Rhaegon sipped his wine.
"You do care, Rhaegon. Why else would you surround yourself with dragonriders?" Laena asked. Rhaegon continued drinking his wine. "You disagree? Very well. I hope it's a long time before I'm proven right."
Rhaegon chuckled. "You're lucky I love you. Otherwise, you'd be whipped for talking to the crown prince as you are now."
"Y... you love me?" Laena was shocked by this confession. In the last ten years that they've been married, Rhaegon has never once said those words to her.
"I do." Rhaegon confidently said. "It's not as much as Rhaenyra, but I love you, Laena. I love your heart. I love your mind. The crown prince chuckled. I love that you always put others above yourself."
Laena walked to her husband and placed his cup of wine on the table. She then climbed on top of him and passionately kissed him. Minutes later, husband and wife made love on the couch.
Present day
After taking the dead body of his wife to bed, he saw Moribund smirking at the crown prince.
"What you do now will determine your rule, boy." Moribund said.
Rhaegon said nothing and walked to maester Gerardys. "Send a letter to King's and to Driftmark. The princess consort is dead."
