"Are you serious, Michael?" I spat at my purple haired best friend as I placed my book down.

"Lily, we have two more weeks until school starts," he chuckled at my reaction.

I was never the type of girl who loved to party. I very much preferred laying in my bed, finishing a show on Netflix.

Michael, on the other hand, loved to socialize. He loved to talk to people- strangers even. He was never awkward when it came to small talk.

The tall video game addict has lilac hair. I always scolded him for dying his locks; might all fall out before he turns 30.

We were opposites, him and I.
He was reckless and had 'you only live once' mindset, and would do whatever he wanted to do whenever he wanted to.

I, however, would overthink about everything and would end up staying inside our apartment reading or watching TV.

"Lily we are seniors now. Seniors."

"Michael I hate to party."

"What if there's cute guys there?"

"Stop trying to change my decision."

"But it's Ashton Irwin's Birthday Party! The new kid that's our grade!"

"Nope."

"I heard he has lucious curly hair and," he started to fan himself, "big dreamy hazel eyes."

"I-"

"And it's his birthday! You could wish him a 'Happy Birthday' and read in the corner or something."

This is how it was like with Michael and I; he would drag me to a party while he could get drunk as hell, while I stay sober in the corner reading a book, ready to drive us home.

"It started five minutes ago, Lily," he said, dragging out the 'y' in my name.

"Oh darn. We're already late! We should just stay here!" I said sarcastically as he playfully glared at me.

"Michael Clifford, I hate you so much," I said as I put my phone and my book, Paper Towns by John Green in my small bag.

"How do you know where he lives, Mike?"

"We're friends on Facebook," he said simply.

We walked into the house and there were sweaty bodies dancing in very dim lighting. I grimaced at the sight until I saw a figure walk torwards us.

"Hey- Michael, right?" he smiled at him.

"Yup that's me!" Michael said happily.

"Oh! This is my best friend, Lily!" Michael said as I looked up.

"Hi Lily, I'm Ashton," he said with a warm smile.

I returned the gesture and watched as he excused himself to greet more people. I scanned the living room for a couch. When I turned to face Michael, he was already gone.
