His opponent is closing in, leaving Logan no room to maneuver the ball. He takes a slow breath, scanning for options, and finally spots it—a small gap on his right. It's his only exit. Just when everyone thinks he's about to lunge for it, he pivots, rolls the ball, and shoots. The adrenaline surges as he hears his teammates' cheers echo in the background, the cool breeze chilling his heated skin. He's on fire today; it's going to be a great game. At least, it should have been—until she passes by.

Through the rusty wire fence enclosing the basketball court, he catches sight of a figure walking with purpose. She glances at him, and the wind seems to carry her presence. Head held high, a beautiful neck exposed to the elements, chocolate eyes focused ahead. Shim Su Ryeon. He silently scolds himself when his gaze lingers on her sashaying hips and long, toned legs in a flowing skirt. His focus on the game wavers. It's inevitable. Time slows down. But it shouldn't; his friends are counting on him, his future is counting on him. He's been worried about his performance lately, terrified that one bad game could cost him his basketball scholarship. Was he always that kind of man?

But his resolve crumbles when their eyes lock, and suddenly, she's all he can see. Stolen kisses between the library shelves, glances across the auditorium, praise murmured on his skin. Time is fractured, the sensation traverses from past to future, warming him inside.

Then the moment is gone—she turns on her heels and walks away, leaving him in dismay. She smiled, didn't she? Or is he watching another timeline, one that they could be together? He doesn't have time to figure it out.

The ball sails toward the hoop...and misses.

Angry groans rise from his teammates, snapping him back to reality. The game is lost.

Sweat drips from his chest, where the pedant she gave him lies. The silver wings glitter.
