Love is an exhausting cycle of almosts and bittersweet reunions for our star-crossed couple. The high school sweethearts part ways after a disastrous prom night only to reconnect a few years later in college. Their connection always seems on the ver...
You couldn't believe it was finally homecoming! You were honestly not sure what to expect from the night but it had to be better than last year. You'd gone as just friends with Nick and thought maybe he liked you but he spent the entire night dancing with your friend, Madison. You looked over at her as she put the finishing touches on her hair and smiled back when she smiled up at you. You didn't even blame her. She had asked you a dozen times if you liked Nick and you swore you didn't. You weren't even sure that you had, you just were excited that someone had asked you to the dance even if he had said "as friends" half a dozen times. You couldn't really hold it against either of them because they were still together a year later and the it couple of your high school. He was a senior now and captain of the football team and she as a junior was already head cheerleader. They were literally written for each other.
At least this year you wouldn't spend the whole time alone. Other than Madison, your friend group was all single and Loren and Olivia were going to make the best bestie dates ever. You'd been friends with Madison and Loren since middle school, but you and Olivia had gotten even closer the last year. You partly thought it was because her and Loren didn't see eye-to-eye about her having a crush on Olivia's big brother, Josh. Nothing had come from it so there hadn't even been a big blow out. Madison might have been the head-cheerleader and popular one but Olivia was the leader of the group for sure.

Olivia held up her perfume and exclaimed: "Damn! Did you all just plan on smelling like copy-paste versions of me? This bottle is half empty."
Madison looked at Loren and joked: "Don't you think it'll put a dent in your attempt to make Josh fall in love with you if you smell just like his baby sister?"
Loren rolled her eyes and laughed: "Please. How many times do I have to tell you all that I don't like Josh! It was a crush for five minutes freshman year."
Olivia laughed, playfully: "Good because brothers are off-limits."
Nick walked in and tilted his head before asking: "Wait, didn't you hook up with your own brother, Olivia?"
Olivia threw her heel at Nick and exasperated: "Ewe! No!! Anthony is NOT my brother. He's Josh's best friend and is just staying here until he and his parents work some stuff out."
Madison: "I still don't understand. How is it okay if you hook up with your brother's friend but he can't hook up with yours?"
Olivia: "We did NOT hook up, we were just talking and besides that was ancient history. We barely even speak since he's been staying here."
You came to your best friend's defense and turned to Nick: "What are you even doing up here Nick? This was supposed to be just us girls getting ready. I know Josh didn't invite you over. You two aren't even friends anymore."
Madison grabbed Nick's hand and sighed: "C'mon babe. You can help me load all my stuff back in my trunk to make it easier after the dance."
They walked out and you smiled up at Loren who was still standing awkwardly holding the perfume bottle Olivia had handed her. She and Olivia had been friends since they were kids and even though she'd sworn she didn't really like Josh, their friendship was never the same. You didn't understand the appeal. I mean he was just Josh. Sure he was tall and like classically good looking but–
Josh peeked his head in and announced: "Hey, Mom wants you guys downstairs in five for some photos or something before you leave for the dance."

–but nothing. He was gorgeous and there was no denying it. But you definitely didn't think any boy ever would be worth losing a friend. You couldn't understand what Loren had been thinking.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This chapter is one of the shorter because I wanted to get the storyline and characters introduced before getting into the juice of the story. My goal is to update as close to daily as possible. I have written most of the story before I even start posting so that should help with me staying no track as all I will have to do is draft and publish :) XOXO ~Christy
