The early morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow over the bedroom. Lucy groaned softly as she shifted under the covers, feeling the familiar ache in her lower abdomen. She knew what was coming—her first period after giving birth to the twins. It wasn't something she was looking forward to, especially not with the added demands of motherhood.
Tim, already awake and dressed, noticed the pained expression on her face. He knew Lucy well enough to recognize when something was bothering her, and today was no exception. He leaned down, brushing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"Hey, you okay?" he asked, concern lacing his voice.
Lucy sighed, trying to muster a reassuring smile but failing. "It's just my period," she admitted, her voice tinged with frustration. "I knew it would come back eventually, but I didn't expect it to be this bad."
Tim's brow furrowed as he reached out, rubbing soothing circles on her back. "I've got you," he said softly. "Let me take care of you today."
Lucy wanted to protest, to insist that she could handle it on her own, but the truth was, she was exhausted. The cramps were intense, and the emotional rollercoaster that came with them only added to her weariness. She nodded, grateful for Tim's support.
Tim wasted no time. He set up a cozy spot on the couch, piling up pillows and grabbing a blanket. He guided Lucy to sit down, ensuring she was comfortable before heading to the kitchen. Moments later, he returned with a heating pad and a cup of herbal tea. He placed the heating pad gently on her abdomen, and the warmth immediately began to soothe the cramps.
Lucy leaned back against the pillows, closing her eyes as the pain slowly began to ease. Tim sat beside her, his hand never leaving her back as he continued to rub slow, comforting circles.
"You don't have to do this, you know," Lucy said quietly, though her voice lacked conviction.
Tim smiled, shaking his head. "I want to. You've been through so much, and you're still dealing with everything that comes with being a new mom. The least I can do is be here for you when you need me."
His words brought tears to Lucy's eyes, but she quickly blinked them away. The emotional ups and downs were harder to manage than she'd expected. "I just... I feel so disconnected from my body right now," she admitted, her voice trembling. "Everything's different, and I'm worried you might see me differently too."
Tim turned to face her fully, taking her hand in his. His gaze was intense, filled with a love that made Lucy's heart ache in the best way. "Lucy, you're more beautiful than ever to me. You've given me two incredible children, and I'm so proud of you. I love every part of you, especially now. You're still the same woman I fell in love with, and nothing will ever change that."
Lucy couldn't hold back the tears this time. They spilled over, but they were tears of relief and love. Tim pulled her into a gentle embrace, holding her close as she let the emotions out. He didn't say anything more, just held her, his presence enough to calm the storm inside her.
The rest of the day passed in a blur of quiet moments and tender care. Tim stayed by her side, refusing to leave her alone for even a moment. He made sure she was comfortable, brought her whatever she needed, and most importantly, reminded her how loved she was.
By the time evening rolled around, Lucy was feeling a little more like herself. The cramps had eased, and the emotional weight that had been pressing down on her had lifted, thanks to Tim's unwavering support. As they settled into bed that night, Lucy couldn't help but feel grateful for the man beside her. She knew she was lucky to have someone who cared so deeply, and she vowed to never take that for granted.
