The innocent girl was crying.

She was crying with everything in her the moment she slammed the door with her tiny fists over and over and nobody opened. Her uncle had locked her in that familiar room.

It still smelt of blood and sweat, a lingering smell she was rather too embarrassed to pick up.

The smell of feminity.

Everything was a mess...the bed sat to the far right, its sheets torn with blotches of red. There were clothes on the floor. Her clothes. Torn beyond repair.

She had fallen to her knees when it finally dawned on her that there was no escape. There never was when times like that came.

She shook terribly when footsteps began to advance down the hall, towards her door. They were heavy and very unfamiliar.

The footsteps seemed to stop just a few feet away but she'd already scooted far back from the door. Her back pressed against the wall as she prayed and hoped it would suck her body and hide her from the terror that would unfold soon.

Voices made her perk up.

There were voices. Not one, but more....she didn't know how many, but they all had the bass to it that made the walls around her shake. She swallowed heavily when someone began to unlock the door from outside before the door was pushed open.

She felt her jaw drop to the floor at the sight of the three monstrosities that towered before her cowering frame.

One of them started to smile. A smile that made her eyes burn with unshed tears.

She knew that smile.

It wasn't a good one...

---

Asher jumped up at once, her chest heaving unevenly as she felt choked all of a sudden. In the semi darkness of the space she was, reality crept in...she had slept, again.

The same images had come again.

And she was having an asthma attack.

Again.

She forced herself up and groped for the nightstand. She was losing air by the second yet she tried so hard to hold together.

She fumbled for the inhaler and swiped it off the stand at once, not hesitating one second to take a full prolonged puff.

She heaved out a huge breath and collapsed onto her bed as her knees felt like jelly.

There in that bed, it dawned on her what she'd just woken from. Her eyes teared up again as she stared up at the ceiling.

She could hear the little girl's pleas and cries, as well as the defiant male grunts and torture she was made to go through.

She forced her hand to her mouth, not wanting to go out of breath again. She still trembled, her belly still stirred, her thighs still ached where the scars were.

The sight was hard to put away, it was tormenting, something nobody should experience ever in life.

Why had she fallen asleep?

Why?

Sleep for others was an escape from the pain of the day, never for Asher.

It was a portal to the past, to the monsters that lurked her mind. She could only ever tame them when her eyes were open, never in her sleep.

She pulled herself up to sit with her back against the headrest. She flicked on the night lamp in an attempt to rid the room of its darkness. She hated darkness.

She hated it because she could still make out those beasts in her nightmares, their huge arms, and merciless eyes. She hated anything that looked like the night.

Night was never the best part of any day for Asher. It always had her up and waiting for dawn to come.

2:15 A.M

The small clock flashed when she looked at it.

She sighed.

If only time could go faster.

She watched the window in anticipation whilst she stirred her cup of coffee. The sun rays would peek out any moment, she was sure.

It was only a matter of time and patience.

A plunge to keep those droopy eyes of hers open.
