IT WAS TOO MUCH.
Inner Asher was doing something else, thrashing for a whole different reason...
Remembrance.
She felt the very thoughts she'd managed to lay asleep awaken, at an alarming pace.
Suddenly Oren wasn't the one sitting up there playing that aged acoustic guitar, suddenly everyone's faces darkened. Everywhere changed. Familiar faces, faces that haunted her past, present and future formed out of nowhere.
Her lips forced open to let out the excess air. Her heart was thumping too loud she could barely hear anything else. Her eyes darted around the room and suddenly it was a blur. She didn't know where she was at...
"Yellow?" She heard Harry call but when she turned, it wasn't Harry seated there... It was..
"No..." the cup slipped from her hand and made a mess on the table. Her eyes failed her and when she rose to her feet, she swayed.
"Yellow... what's going on?"
Asher kept shaking her head. She eased out and leaned against a wall for balance. It didn't matter that concerned eyes were sent her way, it didn't matter that the music had stopped when she was just leaving. "I-I can't..." She stammered
"Yellow!"
She sent a glance over her shoulder, everyone had turned. Harry stood, some feet away, afraid to move so she wouldn't. His eyes held questions, hurt, guilt.
Why had he felt guilty? He did nothing wrong-
But remind you of -
"No!" She shook her head fiercely. She didn't want to hear that name.
She sniffled and opened her eyes again, everyone still watched her. People in the bay she'd often passed by, they finally noticed her. It should've been a thing to be proud about but no. Nothing there was to be proud of, especially the decision to be there that night.
Someone had slowly come up beside Harry, gaining her attention.
She was met by the concern in that same pair that carried the sun with it. The dullness in them didn't faze the light it radiated. Strange.
Asher turned around and left the shop, the door closing behind her.
Her steps were faster, her head kept spinning and she just kept chanting the words 'I can't ' over and over.
"Asher..." She growled out lowly "stay with me..." She whimpered.
She looked up ahead, the junction was still a good distance away, she had to get home she had to be on that bed, she longed to be in it.
Asher had sensed a breakdown coming, her hands were trembling and it wasn't the cold that made her teeth clatter. If only her vision would stay with her just a moment longer... She felt drops of water on her face and hands and cussed into the wind.
It came out as an angry frustrated sound.
She was just tired, her legs were getting weaker with every step, the aftertaste of the coffee she'd had was now replaced with a bitter salty taste she hated. A mixture of bile and tears, because tears kept falling down her stupid eyes! And for the life of her she had to keep her mouth open, her breathing was constricted for most of her life and so when situations like those happened, that was the way forward.
