She couldn't deny them their wish, even though it meant opening a door she would rather keep closed.

Marta settled comfortably on the couch next to Andrea, her best friend who had always been there to provide the support and advice she needed. These were the rare moments of peace when they could chat without interruption, while the twins played on the carpet. As usual, Vida and Rosa displayed their boundless imagination—one spoke for the dolls, while the other invented stories with the toy cars. The television remained off, as if their own world was fascinating enough to keep them fully entertained.
Andrea looked at Marta, tilting her head slightly and asked with a hint of curiosity, "So, how was it? I mean, the meeting with Carlos."
Marta smiled slightly, though there was a touch of uncertainty in her expression. "You know, Andrea, it was... strange. Meeting after all those years. It was a bit like going back in time, but at the same time, I realized how much has changed."
Andrea smirked and gently nudged Marta's shoulder. "Oh, come on, don't be so serious. It must have been a little exciting, right? Seeing him again after all these years?"
Marta chuckled briefly. "Okay, I admit, it was a little exciting. But more than excitement, I felt something like... closure. Like the circle had come full. We talked about our lives, what we're doing, where we've been. And you know what's interesting?"
"What?" Andrea asked, her interest piqued.
"That despite all the changes we've both been through, in some ways, we're still the same," Marta said thoughtfully. "Carlos is still the same kind, charismatic person I once knew. But now he has his life, his career, and I have mine."
Andrea gazed at Marta intently, as if trying to peer into her soul. "And what about you? Did you feel any old emotions? Any stirrings from the past?"
Marta hesitated for a moment before responding. "Not really. It felt more like reminiscing than actual feelings. I'm happy where I am. I have my girls, I have my life. And I think Carlos understands that."
"Well, that sounds pretty mature," Andrea noted with a slight tone of approval. "But I bet if you asked him the same thing, he might say something different."
Marta smiled and shook her head. "Maybe. But he actually believed for a moment that Vida and Rosa could be his daughters. I thought I was going to burst out laughing."
Andrea's eyes widened. "He really thought that?"
"Well, for a moment, maybe," Marta nodded. "But when I told him the timing didn't add up, he realized it. Still, it was... cute, how he tried."
"So, he didn't push the topic any further?" Andrea asked, slightly concerned.
Marta shook her head. "No, when I didn't answer his question about their father, he dropped it. I think he understood that I didn't want to talk about it."
