"Where are we going now?" Graypaw's mew rang through Shadowpaw's ears as the black and white cat was snapped out of his earlier trance. "For StarClan's sake, keep it DOWN Graypaw! We're right at the border of the Twolegplace!" He hissed into Graypaw's ear.
Lionheart glared at the apprentice, and he shut his mouth. "Hey, Shadowpaw, you thinking what I'm thinking?" Graypaw meowed with a snicker.
"Oh no... you are NOT-"
But it was too late. Graypaw dragged him away from Lionheart and Bluestar, unnoticed and unseen by the other wild animals prowling by. Shadowpaw swiped at him furiously.
"I really hate you, y'know that?" reminded Shadowpaw. "Mr-ow-ow! I know! Hahaha!" Graypaw laughed. Shadowpaw rolled his eyes with a smirk and an unfamiliar smell touched his nose. He paused and sniffed for a few moments.
"A kittypet!" Shadowpaw yowled, seeing a ginger tom cat with a light blue collar try and fail to hunt a mouse. "Hunting in our territory!"
"We need to chase it out, so-" started Graypaw, but Shadowpaw already ran towards it. Graypaw sighed. "Never mind!" He groaned. Shadowpaw barreled into the kittypet. It gave a loud screech as it attempted to retaliate, an attempt that was destined to fail.
The kittypet rolled onto its back and Shadowpaw was sent flying into Graypaw. "Watch it!" Graypaw mewed. "Well, don't blame me if the kittypet has some- It's getting away!" Shadowpaw cried.
Shadowpaw gave chase to the kittypet, but to his surprise, the kittypet turned around to fight him. Shadowpaw rammed into him, but the surprise of the kittypet fighting back caused him to stumble backwards. Not even he had that bravery!
But something about this kittypet seemed familiar...
Then it hit him.
"Rusty!" realized Shadowpaw, and not in a happy-to-see-you way. "Two-Tone?!" meowed Rusty in shock, remembering the black and white fur. "Why are you here? Why aren't you with the twolegs?!" He snarled ferociously in a way Rusty was not used to.
"I-I just came to hunt a mouse or two, but I can't believe you're still alive!" Rusty yowled. "Hey, kittypet!" mewed Graypaw, ignoring the small reunion. "You put up quite the fight for a tame kitty. Although, Shadowpaw isn't the best apprentice."
Rusty looked at him, but his eyes were fixated on Shadowpaw. Shadowpaw snarled but said nothing as he sat next to his clan mate. "And I'll fight you again if I have to," meowed Rusty.
"Oh, wow! Have those twolegs messed up your brain, Rusty? Cause you certainly weren't this stupid the last time I saw you." Rusty shot the sarcastic black-and-white tom a sharp glare.
"I'm Graypaw by the way," Graypaw went on, ignoring their mini argument. "I'm training to be a ThunderClan warrior. Along with Shadowpaw, but he's training to be a medicine cat. Not a very good medicine cat but what can you say? Spottedleaf likes him."
"Watch your foul mouth Graypaw! You'll end up rolling in mouse dung for the rest of your miserable life!" Shadowpaw snapped. Rusty looked at him, surprised. This was not the Two-Tone he once knew.
Shadowpaw and Rusty glared at each other once more. "What's a kittypet like you doing out in the woods? Don't you know it's dangerous?" Graypaw asked.
"If you're the most dangerous thing the woods has to offer; I think I can handle it." Rusty bluffed. Shadowpaw flicked his tail, annoyed. But he gave a smirk at Graypaw as he licked his paw and rubbed his face with it.
Graypaw ignored Shadowpaw and glanced up at Rusty with his big yellow eyes. "Oh, I'm far from the most dangerous; if I were even half a warrior, I'd give an intruder like you some real wounds to think about."
