And maybe he could, if their coming from different Clans didn't threaten to break the entire warrior code as they know it. Ravenpaw has witnessed a murder. The trouble is, he doesn't know who murdered who. All that is certain is that neither Redtail nor Oakheart lived through the battle at Sunningrocks, and only his mentor Tigerclaw seems to know why. These three young cats, each with their own path to tread, will be drawn together by fate as the cats of ThunderClan face turmoil from within and without. Through it all, they have only their ancestors' mysterious warning to guide them: "Fire alone will save our Clan."

Growing close with Whitepaw and Lionpaw as he grew as an apprentice, he gained a mentor in Bluefur, a cat Tigerpaw used to believe was as soft as a kittypet before he was proven wrong. Now a warrior, Tigerclaw treats his apprentices, the ambitious Darkstripe and the anxious Ravenpaw, the way Bluefur treated him: fair, but intense and stern. He's half-way through Ravenpaw's training before a kittypet shows up in ThunderClan. Firepaw immediately admires Tigerclaw. Tigerclaw feels neutral about him, considering that his father left him and his sisters, now Nightfall and Miststep, to become a kittypet. Tigerclaw's loyalty to his clan is tested when he struggles with the temptation to blaze his way through the ranks. Days go by slower and slower with each day that comes as Tigerclaw descends further and further into insanity as greed and ambition battle loyalty and honor, isolating himself from his clanmates- pushing the worried ones away, agreeing with the ones who say he'll be fine. Because he will. Right? He becomes more and more unsure of that as the days pass. He isolates himself further and further, until even his sisters think of him as a stranger. Only one cat is able to see through his walls. That cat is Fireheart.
