I feel like I need to be doing something to help out, but every time I ask, Lucifer assures me that he wants to cook for the both of us. I notice that he hums while he makes pancakes. It's entertaining and adorable.

"I have a question for you..." I begin, not wanting to distract Lucifer too much if he's not one for talking and cooking.

"Ask away!" Lucifer encourages. Good, that was the permission I was looking for. He never turns to look at me, but he sounds excited about the conversation.

"Couldn't you just... I don't know... snap your fingers and make food appear?" I ask him. I mean, I'm pretty sure he's all powerful, right? Or at least the most powerful person here.

"Oh absolutely!" Lucifer verifies, finally turning to look at me. "But it's not nearly as fun, and they don't taste as good." He clarifies. "Slowly making pancakes is much better, trust me." He explains as he flips the current batch of pancakes he's working on.

"Huh, good to know." I mutter. I find it funny that Lucifer thinks of cooking as the slow way of making food. "So..." What else do I ask Lucifer? He seems like a nice guy, but I don't want to pry too much either and make him upset. "What should I know about the King of Hell?" I ask him with a genuine smile. I figure that question starts up a conversation and lets him share whatever he's comfortable sharing.

"Oh! Um..." Lucifer starts thinking as he moves a set of pancakes to a plate and starts making another batch. "Let's see... I love breakfast food, I love my daughter Charlie more than anything, I think her girlfriend Maggie seems like a nice girl, I don't like Alastor and it makes me frustrated that he's at the hotel with my little girl. Oh, and I hope Charlie's meeting with Heaven goes well today!" He says everything so cheerfully as he continues making pancakes.

I notice how he focuses mostly on current events. He didn't really talk much about his past. I'm not going to pry. I think it's amazing how much he cares about his daughter, Charlie. She's so lucky to have such a supportive father. I only know the little bit I saw of him at the hotel and what I'm learning today, but it seems like he really cares about her.

"Her name is actually Vaggie." I correct him with a little laugh. Right as I say her name, Lucifer is entertaining himself with a very excentric and impressive pancake flip, making himself laugh. He looks back at me.

"Did you say something?" He asks.

"Nothing." I roll my eyes, still with a smile. "How many pancakes do you think I can eat?" I ask him as I look at the most recent batch of pancakes he's made.

Lucifer looks at me, then all the pancakes he's made, and then finally back to me. "I made you five pancakes, hoping that would be enough. I made me twenty-five!" He states matter-of-factly as he hands me a plate of five pancakes.

This makes me laugh quite a bit. I can't believe he'll eat twenty-five pancakes. "Five is plenty enough, thank you." I say sincerely.

Once we get to the dining room table it's set with all sorts of pancake fixings. Butter, whipped cream, bananas, strawberries, and so much more! There's also plenty of choices of juices, so it's impossible for me to be unhappy in this situation.

"You said earlier that you were unhappy that Alastor was at the hotel." I mention as I start picking the things I want with my pancakes. Lucifer is doing the same, but his eyes are focused on me as I talk. "If it makes you feel any better, I'm not happy about it either." I laugh a little. I'm not sure if he understands the irony since I can't get away from him.

"Yeah, you're... predicament, sure is interesting." Lucifer begins as he takes a bite of a pancake. "Most demons sell their souls for their own deals. Yours was gambled away against your will." He manages to say with a mouthful of pancakes.

I tilt my head to the side. "How do you know all of that?" I question.

"I have my ways." Lucifer answers vaguely as he takes another bite. "Tell me, why are you trying to save Husk before trying to save yourself?" He asks, again with his face stuffed with pancakes.

Lucifer sure knows a lot more than he lets on. "I think Husk has a better chance of being redeemed than I ever would. As angry as I was that he gambled me away, he's also been working hard to keep me motivated to continue surviving and he helps me where he can. He's not a bad guy. Just... a guy in a bad situation." I explain, taking a bite of my breakfast.

This explanation seems to have taken Lucifer off guard. He stops eating his pancakes and puts his silver wear down. "Don't you think your cause is worth being redeemed for?" He questions me. "If you're willing to go through whatever these favors are, wouldn't you think that self-sacrifice is a redeemable quality?" He clarifies.

I shrug. "That's not really for me to decide. If it is, great. But I'm not going to hold my breath." I take a small bite and point my fork at him. "Besides, if I get redeemed, I'll miss out on these fantastic pancakes!" I swallow my bite and pick up my glass. "Maybe I don't want to be redeemed now." I joke as I take a sip.

Lucifer laughs, a good genuine laugh. "Well, I don't know if my pancakes are worth staying in Hell for." He blushes before his phone dings. He looks at his phone quickly and then puts it on the counter. "Sounds like the portal for Charlie's meeting in Heaven showed up. That's good." He says quietly. I wonder if he's still in contact with anyone from Heaven.

Lucifer looks at me with a more serious face. "I do hope your circumstances change someday. Whether that means you get redeemed or your afterlife here becomes easier." I find it funny that so many people back in the living world picture this man as some horrible manipulative creature when, in fact, he's such a caring man.

"If you're ever having a hard time, let's have breakfast again. How does that sound?" Lucifer asks, still smiling.

"That sounds wonderful. Thank you so much, Lucifer." I stand from the table and start gathering dishes. "You cooked; I'll clean. At least let me help with that." I offer.

"Oh, Hell no!" Lucifer chimes in. With the snap of his fingers all the dishes, including the ones I was holding, are gone. "Dishes are no fun." He states as he opens a portal for me that leads back to the hotel. "Until next time then, (y/n)!" Lucifer says happily as he waves goodbye.

I wave back and walk through the portal to go back to the hotel. Once the portal closes, I notice how quiet it is in the hotel. I know Charlie and Vaggie have their meeting in Heaven, but where is everyone else?

Am I the only one here?
