I walk around the lobby slowly, looking around carefully. I don't see anyone. Husk isn't behind the bar, Angel isn't on any of the couches, and Niffty isn't running around cleaning. I know Charlie and Vaggie are at their meeting. Who knows where Alastor is! Maybe at an overlord meeting? It's too quiet.
"Hello?" I yell out but get nothing in response. I look down the hallways and up the stairs and still don't see anyone. "Maybe the rapture has happened and everyone except me has been redeemed." I joke as I continue looking around.
I stop moving once I feel something brushing along my leg. I look down to see KeeKee rubbing against my leg, happy to see me. "Oh, hey KeeKee!" I kneel and pet KeeKee, making them happy for the head rubs. "Well, I guess I'm not entirely alone." I say to KeeKee as I stand back up and continue looking around. But seriously, where did everyone go?
I feel another brush against my leg, grabbing my attention. "What do you need, KeeKee?" I question as I look down, except it's not KeeKee this time.
A shadowed hand is tugging against my pant leg, trying to grab my attention. I recognize this shadow, it's Alastor's. I don't know if I've ever seen it separated from Alastor, interesting. The shadow tugs at my pant leg a little more before looking up at me, realizing it's finally grabbed my attention. The shadow makes a motion with its hand like it wants me to follow as it starts slithering down the hallway.
"This is a weird ass day." I mutter, taking a step to follow the shadow. Once I start moving, I feel another tug on my other pant leg. I look down and see KeeKee tugging on my leg with their teeth. It's like they're trying to pull me in the opposite direction from the shadow. Why doesn't KeeKee want me to go?
"I'll be okay, KeeKee, don't you worry!" I reassure KeeKee and pet them one last time, pulling them away from me so that they are no longer tugging on my pant leg and look back down the hallway. The shadow is waiting for me to continue following it.
I start following the shadow again. Every few steps the shadow would get ahead of me, look back to make sure I was following it, and then continue.
"Since when does Alastor send his shadow to fetch me?" I question the shadow like it can answer me. I know it's silly, but the silence in the hotel makes me uncomfortable. This is abnormal. It does make me wonder. "Is Alastor, okay?" I question the shadow. I don't know why I'm asking, it's not like it can answer me.
After I ask, the shadow stops and looks at me for a longer period of time before again motioning for me to follow it. I wonder if that was its way of answering me. Maybe Alastor isn't okay.
I'm surprised, the first emotion I feel when thinking that Alastor might be hurt is worry. I would've thought maybe excitement. This revelation is interesting. Why would I be worried?!
The shadow leads me to the door of Alastor's hotel room before disappearing underneath the door. I'm guessing the shadow wants me to keep following it, but I also don't want to just intrude.
I knock on the door. "Alastor?" I question, getting no response. I put my ear up to the door but don't hear anything. Ugh, I'm going to have to go check on him, aren't I?
"Alastor, I'm coming in!" I yell, waiting to see if there are any verbal objections. When I don't hear anything, I open the door slowly.
There's nothing but darkness. I didn't know darkness could be this dark. The only light I have is the light from the hallway thanks to the open door. The forest that's connected to his room has a thick fog that I don't remember seeing before. I hate to admit it, but I'm getting scared. This is too dark.
Just as I'm about to back out, the door slams shut. I'm engulfed in the darkness. I look around and try to adjust my eyes, but there's not much I can do. I try to adjust using any other sense I can. Smells or listening to get anything, but all I can smell is a forest. Once I focus on my hearing, I can finally hear something. The sound of static, and it's getting closer. It's moving closer very quickly.
Before I can react, I'm pinned against the door between his arms. The sound of his hands slamming against the door is jarring and makes me jump. It's so violent.
"(y/n)." Alastor says my name, but in a strange tone. He sounds strained. Like he's struggling.
Now that he's so close I can see his glowing red eyes, which help illuminate his face. He looks like he's sweating, and I can hear him breathing heavier than he should be.
"Jesus, Alastor are you sick?" I question, putting the back of my hand on his forehead. He feels very warm.
Before he answers me, I feel him lean into my touch. It's a bit out of character. Like he appreciates the touch. He laughs a little. "You could say that." He answers vaguely before focusing his eyes back on me. "I'm calling on the first of your three favors." He states through uneven breaths.
"Ooookay?" I draw out, moving my hand back. Before I can move my hand very far, Alastor grabs my wrist, holding my hand in place.
"This has been happening to me for decades since I've been here. Every time it gets worse." Alastor starts explaining. "I've been able to avoid it or take care of it myself, but it doesn't seem like these are options anymore. It hurts. It physically hurts." He does sound pretty pained.
"Darling... what does the word 'rut' mean to you?" Alastor asks me.
"You mean like a deer in hea-...?" I can't even say the word 'heat' as it all clicks. Alastor is a deer demon. Alastor isn't sick. He's far from sick! Oh, fuck!
"You catch on fast." Alastor glowing eyes are focused on me. The grip he has on my wrist moves up my hand as he interlocks his fingers with mine. "If I must finally go through with this, I'd appreciate if it was you." It's interesting how soft his words are when I can hear the struggle in his voice. Also, with what he just said, would this be his first time too?
"I'll give you a choice..." Alastor starts as he shows me a bottle in his other hand. I recognize that liquid. "If it will make things easier for you, I understand." Velvette's potions are strong, I know that firsthand now.
If I decline this favor, there's no possibility of Husk getting set free. Also, maybe it's time I find out if Mimzy has a point. I've been curious lately; I can't deny that. Plus, then I'm one step closer to helping Husk out of his contract. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm having a hard time finding a downside to this. At least besides my own fears and insecurities.
The main question I have right now is whether I should drink the potion or not.
Note for next chapter: The next chapter will be a 'choose your own adventure' mature chapter. One chapter will depict if you decided to drink the potion (Bottoms up (you drink the potion)) where the events are more tame and gentle, and the other will depict if you decide against drinking the potion (The true experience (you don't drink the potion)) and the events are more unhinged and rough. They'll both be posted the same day, so feel free to pick which adventure you want! Or both, if you want! It's your adventure!
As always, I'll also post a clean synopsis in the chapter following for those who wish to skip the mature chapters but still know the plot points that happened.
Have fun, you sinners!
