The next morning, I sat in the Gryffindor common room, comfortably settled into one of the plush chairs with a book in my lap. The warmth of the fire crackling nearby made it a perfect spot for some quiet reading. But my peace was soon interrupted when Fred and George Weasley appeared, plopping down on either side of me with identical mischievous grins plastered on their faces.
I groaned inwardly, already sensing trouble. Without even lifting my eyes from the page, I asked, "What do you want?"
The twins chuckled in unison, clearly enjoying themselves. George leaned in a bit closer, trying to peek at what I was reading. "Nothing, just curious what you're up to," he said, his tone dripping with faux innocence.
Fred, never one to miss an opportunity, followed up quickly. "And where's your twin this fine morning?"
I sighed, realizing there was no escaping their teasing. "He's in practice with Oliver Wood," I replied, keeping my tone casual. But I could feel a slight blush creeping up my cheeks at the mention of Wood, and of course, the twins noticed immediately.
Their eyes lit up with glee, and Fred nudged George with a grin. "Oh, look at that, Georgie. Someone's blushing!"
"Must be something to do with a certain Quidditch star in the making," George added, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
I rolled my eyes, trying to keep my cool, laughing internally at the fact that they misinterpret me. "Oh, please. I'm just happy for him. It's a big deal, you know."
But the twins weren't about to let it go that easily. Fred leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "Come on, Nav. We see the way you light up when you talk about him."
"Yeah," George chimed in, "it's like you've got your own little seeker crush."
My blush deepened, and I finally put my book down, glaring at the two of them. "You two are impossible, you know that?"
Fred and George just laughed, clearly delighted with themselves. "We know," they said in unison, clearly enjoying the fun at my expense.
I snapped, "He's my twin brother!" but it was no use. Fred and George just walked away, laughing even louder. I glared after them, muttering, "Gits," under my breath.
As I was still fuming, Ron wandered over, looking curious. "What was all that about?" he asked, his brow furrowed.
I sighed, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Your stupid brothers think I like Harry, which is ridiculous because we're twins." I paused, then glanced around to make sure no one else was listening. Leaning closer to Ron, I whispered, "But... I think I might have a bit of a crush on... Wood."
Ron's eyes widened in surprise, and he blinked at me. "Oliver Wood?" he whispered back, as if confirming he'd heard right.
I nodded, biting my lip nervously. "Yeah, but you can't tell anyone, okay? Especially not Fred and George."
Ron grinned, trying to hold back a laugh. "Your secret's safe with me. But... I mean, Wood's pretty cool. Just don't let Fred and George find out. They'll never let you hear the end of it."
I groaned, burying my face in my book. "I know... which is why you have to swear not to tell anyone. No one knows, not even Hermione or Harry... promise?" I peeked over the top of my book, giving Ron a pleading look that must have come off as more adorable than I intended.
Ron chuckled, unable to resist a laugh, and reached out to ruffle my hair. "Alright, alright, I promise. Your secret's safe with me." He grinned, clearly amused. "But you know, you might want to work on that adorable face. It's gonna give you away if you're not careful."
