The Ultra Academy was making headlines again. Four days had passed since the assault occurred. Dozens of kids had needed medical assistance, some had been in the emergency room and one had been kidnapped.
No matter how many times Hyori refreshed her feed, she would be reminded that a kid from the heroic course had been raptured during the summer camp, right under the guard of heroic teachers and professionals.
Internet analysts were breaking down the 'fall of the number one hero school' while petitions to have the Principal resign were shared. The flow of anger was only interrupted by a few grievances.
Hyori closed her phone and sat on the edge of the shared bed. She didn't want to see another grievance. She understood the anger and worry but didn't want to believe a pupil of her school had been killed by villains.
They hadn't let the heroes do their job yet, even if their job would have been to prevent what happened. Still, she wanted to give them credit and believe they would save the kid.
The Genesis Escadron. With three of their members locked by the order enforcement, she hoped the police would soon find their headquarters. Even if she was aware that appearances are deceiving, she still had been shocked when the mugshot of a teen girl circled the internet.
The girl seemed to be around her age and was a runaway suspected of being a serial killer. She hadn't paid much mind to the muscular man or the patched one. Yet, she found herself absorbed by Himiko Toga's case.
Footage of her crying parents exiting the police station had been broadcast and was playing on a loop on the internet. The couple had remained barricaded in their home after they recognised their daughter in the police custody.
The police had been searching for the missing boy for four days already. The police and heroes must be onto something. They had to. Even if each passing day added weight to the gloomy idea that they would bring closure to the parents instead of relief.
Beside Hyori, Megumi was enraptured by the display on her tablet. The taller one pried the screen from the little one.
"Watching this on a loop isn't healthy."
Megumi let go of the device before hugging her knees. Hyori put the tablet on the bedside before facing her restless soul sister.
"Come here."
She put the younger's head above her heart and caressed her side while muffling her nerves' signal. The younger calmed down after a few minutes.
"I'm not the one who needs your help."
"But you are agitated and right beside me."
Silence engulfed the bedroom again before Megumi asked.
"Isn't that your teacher's class? The one training you."
"It's likely."
"Can't you help him? What if he's too stressed to do the right thing?"
Her golden irises were pleading into lavender ones. She wanted Hyori to do something. Sure, giving mental support to her teacher would be a nice gesture. Yet, she wasn't sure the act would be appropriate or well received.
Was it her place to boost her teacher's morale? She could try. After all, the man went out of his way to help her.
"I'll see what I can do."
~~~
Hyori didn't have a plan and mostly operated on autopilot. She went into her vacant bedroom to change into layers of shirts and one of her jeans boyfriends. She read five past two in the afternoon on her phone before sliding the device into one of her jean's side pockets.
