A Bed of Lies

After dinner, everybody started leaving into their chambers.

"You'll be sleeping with me tonight." Darth Vader said in a stern tone.

What did he mean by that? Was there going to be a mattress for me to sleep on in his room?

We started walking towards his room. Once we were in, I couldn't spot a second mattress.

Darth Vader, who was close behind me as I looked around the room in search of a mattress, handed me a pyjama.

"Go change, the bathroom is over there." He told me, pointing at a door next to the bed. I went into the big bathroom and changed into a dark red, long-sleeved pyjama.

When I walked out of the room, Vader had already changed into his pyjamas. It seemed like he had changed in here, which means I could've walked in on him undressed. He took the risk instead of waiting for me to come out.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice I was staring at him. My eyes were wandering up and down on him, wondering all sorts of things. Does he sleep with the helmet? Does he wear any colour other than black?

"Is something wrong?" He asked me, looking confused. I quickly looked down to my feet, he had caught me staring, again.

"N... Nothing, I was just wondering where I will sleep." I replied.

"In my bed, with me." He answered. I had to sleep with him in one bed?! I would have preferred the mattress in my cell than sleeping with him.

He sat down on one side of the bed, took off his helmet, and left it on the night stand. Then he lay down on one side of the immense bed.

"What are you waiting for?" He asked.

I went to the opposite side of the bed and lay down, far away from Vader.

But I couldn't help but think about his beautiful face, those enchanting eyes that made me want to gaze at him every time.

"Goodnight, Lillian." I heard him say from the other end of the bed.

"Goodnight," I answered, pulling the blanket up.

"We have to share that blanket, and I am not covered at all, Lillian." I turned my head to see what he was talking about. He was coming closer to me in search of the blanket. Once he was completely covered by the blanket, he was a lot closer to me, only a few centimetres away.

We've never been so close before. He slept next to me, but never in the same bed. I could feel his warmth as he got comfortable in his bed.

I tried to fall asleep, but I couldn't stop thinking about him, about his body almost touching mine. It felt so wrong, although I desired his touch in some way.

"Lillian, wake up."

I woke up to Darth Vader's voice, it was calm and human since he wasn't wearing his mask yet.

I opened my eyes to see I had my arms wrapped around Vader's robust torso. I immediately let go and sat up straight. This could've been one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. It surely made it into the top ten.

"Did you sleep well? I've been trying to wake you up for five minutes." He asked me. He knew the answer to that question, he just wanted me to feel guilty for sleeping wrapped around him.

"Yes, I did. I'm sorry for the unexpected hug, I tend to cling to people while I sleep, or at least that's what my master told me." I excused my behaviour. Quinlan and I had to sleep in the same bed multiple times on missions, and somehow I always woke up wrapped around him.

"You do move a lot in your sleep." He stated.

We walked out of his room after getting changed into our robes. I wondered if we would eat breakfast at the same awful place again. The men there seemed scary and evil, and I already had enough with being around Vader.

To my surprise, Vader didn't take me to the same elegant dining room from the dinner. Instead, he took me to the canteen, where all the other Stormtroopers were eating their breakfast peacefully.

They weren't wearing their helmets, and it reminded me that they were humans and not machines. They are normal people like me. Unfortunately, they were trained to obey the Sith, no matter under what circumstances.

We started walking to an empty table separated from the other canteen tables and sat down. Food was brought to us immediately by two Stormtroopers.

"Why are we eating here and not in the dining room?" I asked Darth Vader that was sitting next to me.

"We eat lunch and breakfast in the canteen with the Stormtroopers, in fact we only use the dining room to eat dinner." He replied as soon as he swallowed the bite of scrambled eggs he had taken before.

I remembered how he shoved that down my throat when I refused to eat, that asshole. But the only hope for me to get to a Comlink was to gain his trust, so I stayed quiet during the rest of the meal, like a good apprentice.
