A Sneeze in the Shadows

The next day Vader and I had to get ready fast. We had a mission in the surroundings of the Death Star; it was a spontaneous attack from the Jedi. They never disappoint. I was sure they weren't there to rescue me but rather to get revenge for some attack of the Sith.

"Quickly, get into the spaceship; we'll be flying together." Vader told me before getting into the spaceship. It was a small ship, however big enough for two people.

Darth Vader was piloting the ship while I was thinking of a plan to prevent any Jedi from getting hurt and, meanwhile, not get killed. The closer we got to the other spaceships, the more nervous I got.

"Are you okay, Lillian?" He asked me while focusing his eyes on the Jedi.

"Um, yes, I'm just a little nervous; this is the first time I've witnessed an air attack." I lie. I have been in multiple air attacks, all of them from the Sith, and unfortunately every single one of them was destructive.

"Well, I'm honored then." He said. I could practically see him smirk at me under the mask.

We had arrived at the destination. There was only one spaceship from the Jedi left; all the others had been destroyed by Stormtroopers.

"I'll take the last one. Fly back." Vader ordered. All the other spaceships from the dark side left immediately, making their way back to the Death Star.

Vader was getting closer and closer to the target. Everything was ready; he just needed to shoot.

"AHHH-CHOOO!" In my hurry to think of a way for the Jedi to escape, the only thing I came up with was the poorest fake sneeze of my whole existence. While sneezing, I grabbed the control handle and redirected us to another direction. Despite my bad acting skills, Vader missed the spaceship.

In the next second the Jedi's spaceship is gone, but when I turn around to look at Darth Vader, I see him tearing his mask off. Under it is a furious expression.

"What the hell were you thinking?! Was this planned to protect your little Jedi friends, Lillian!?" He snapped.

"What? No, I'm sorry, I had to sneeze and accidentally moved the control handle a bit." Those could be my last words.

He took off his left glove and wrapped his hand around my neck. Here we go again. To my surprise he wasn't squeezing too hard; I could still breathe.

"Why should I believe that stupid lie? Do you think I'm blind!? I saw you grabbing the handle and pulling it towards you! You pathetic Jedi scum!" He shouted at me, squeezing my neck a bit harder. I wrapped my hands around his enormous hand, trying to pull it away from my neck, without success.

"No, no, please. You have to understand me; it's not easy for me to join the Sith. These people are my friends, although I don't agree with their standards anymore. They're people, people who mean something to me. I swear I'll better myself, Vader; next time I won't hesitate; I'll shoot them myself. "I explained to him while tears were running down my face. I hope next time is never because if I have to shoot a Jedi, I'd choose myself.

"Your decision was emotional; you didn't want your friends to die because they mean something to you. You're new in the field, Lillian, so I'll let you get away with it this time." He replied while removing his hand from my neck slowly.

"Thank you, Master, I won't fail you."
