"What are you doing?" Katrina cried out from behind the closed door, appalled.
"You're the only one who will keep my husband safe."
"Zafir is a man of his word. He will not harm his own brother, they are only going to talk."
"No, we were exiled to here."
"Because you betrayed him. What are you? Brainwashed or something? How could you let our father sell you off like a piece of meat!"
"And you didn't?" Gemma snapped.
"Of course not. I love Zafir and went to him freely. You did us both a favour by running off with his brother."
"He was cold and uncaring. All I would've been to him, would be a wife, to be the mother of his children, never a person."
"What did you expect, it was an arranged marriage, you stupid girl," she snarled in frustration.
"Stop it! Stop it! I hate you! I was always just a airhead who liked pretty things that I did but that didn't mean I was brainless."
"I never said you were," she said softly. Had she really made her feel that way? She never meant to. Sighing, she run a hand through her hair. It hadn't been easy being the daughter your father never wanted.
"No, not to my face, but you did by the way you treated me. The way you looked at me the last time you left with that woman."
"Our mother."
"Who betrayed our father."
Katrina couldn't believe what she was hearing. "He was a bully and a tyrant."
"And you think Zafir isn't?"
"He isn't," she whispered softly. "He is gentle and kind and a man worth loving. Please Gemma unlock the door. I won't leave, just unlock the door," she begged. She wasn't going to be a prisoner again. "Please," she begged, not caring. There was only silence. "Gemma!" she cried out in pain banging on the door. "Let me out!" She rattled the handle to turn around in anger. She should've stayed with Zafir or brought Abdul with her. Wait until she got her hands on her sister, she was so....so she sighed to sink onto a sofa.
After everything she had been through she had ended up back here. Zafir had no idea and he will hit the roof when he found out. Gemma had actually put her husband's life in danger, not protected him. She stood as the key in the lock turned and door opened to stare into familiar eyes to relax with relief. Abdul. She went to him to take hold of his hand and pulled him deeper into the room. He showed her the key as he shut the door behind them, knowing she couldn't be locked in.
"What are you doing here?" Though was grateful he was to hug him. "Thank you I couldn't bare been locked away again." She stepped back releasing him knowing she was crossing the line. "Sorry, what about Zafir?"
"Doing as he wanted. You were never to leave my sight." She nodded, instructed by Zafir before they left the palace. Always looking after her.
"Is he in any danger?"
"No, once we knew where you were, we knew you were in no real danger, just a game of chess. We knew something was going down, thought we had stopped it but had no idea you were in the mix or that she was your sister."
"So I was just a pawn used against Zafir?"
"Somehow it doesn't make sense. Not at first. Hussein was happy with his bride."
"My sister and when I come looking for her, he panicked."
"I think it was your sister who did. Hussein used it in his favour when he heard rumours of the Sheikh and a certain redhead."
