"She did not sport the tender love of a mother"
Thursday, 8:15am
Nivea's POV:
I sat in my office sorting through the notes I took during a session with a female student yesterday.
"Bites nails obsessively." I whispered to myself.
I was so captivated by my discoveries that I hadn't noticed when my head of department stepped into the office space.
"Ms. Lee?" She spoke.
I hurriedly looked at the intruder.
Oh, a she.
"Good morning Mrs. Wright." I said, greeting the short woman.
She pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and plopped into the chair positioned in front of my desk.
"Is there something I can help you with?" I asked as I watched the rather inquisitive woman cross her legs.
"Not really. I just came to query something." She responded, peering over at my notes.
Den a how she one suh fass?
I hurriedly closed the notebook and placed it into one of my desk drawers.
"And that is?"
She eyed me up and down before a look of scorn made an appearance, however, as quickly as it came, it went away.
"Kashane Smith. What do you know about him?" She asked while staring into my eyes.
My heart panged against my ribcage at the sound of Kashane's name.
He hasn't attended a session since last Friday.
"He's a student I was assigned to conduct sessions with." I said, keeping the conversation vague.
Her mouth formed an 'o' before she asked her next question.
"So wah him problem? Why him nah talk?"
"That is information kept strictly between, the student, his parents and I." I responded.
She hissed her teeth and leaned closer towards the desk.
"Everbody know everybody bizniz here. So theres no need to be keeping secrets." She said.
Den a wah suh? Wah mek she wah know di people dem pickney bizniz?
"As I said before Mrs Wright, that is between the student, his parents and I."
She rolled her eyes then rose from her seat.
As she opened her mouth to leave a lasting statement, my office door opened and Kashane walked in.
He looked well put together, however his swollen red eyes and tear stained cheeks told a different story.
He looked between Mrs Wright and I then greeted us with a gentle 'good morning'.
We both returned his greetings before I looked at my head of department expectatntly.
"Is there something else Mrs Wright?" I asked.
Cause mi nuh know why she still in yah.
"No...have a good rest of day Ms Lee." She said, looking at Kashane curiously.
He returned her stare but didnt utter a word.
Taking this as her sign to leave, she exited my office.
I looked towards the door she had went through and wracked my brain for answers.
Why the sudden in interest in Kashane?
