Y/N's mind often drifted back to that fateful day in the park with Hoseok. Who was the man who had attacked them? And more importantly, why?
As Y/N delved deeper into the library's dusty shelves, a glint of something unusual caught her eye. She reached out and pulled a heavy, leather-bound journal from its place on the shelf. The journal was covered in dust, and its pages were worn with age.
Y/N carefully opened the journal to a random page. As her eyes scanned the faded ink, a shiver ran down her spine. The words on the page describe in vivid detail the park incident from Hoseok's perspective. The man who had attacked them was not just a random assailant; he was a member of a powerful organization that had been targeting the estate for years.
Y/N's heart pounded in her chest as she continued to read. The journal revealed that the organization was interested in the advanced technology that had been developed at the estate. They had been trying to obtain it for years, and they would stop at nothing to get their hands on it.
A cold dread settled in Y/N's stomach. She realized that she was not just a prisoner in this place; she was a target.
As Y/N scanned the journal, her heart pounded in her chest. A familiar voice caught her attention, and she froze, her breath held. Peering out from her hiding place, she saw Namjoon and Jin in a serious discussion.
"The prototype has shown unexpected progress," Namjoon said, his voice low and intense. "Her cognitive abilities far surpass our initial parameters, despite the memory anomalies."
Jin sighed. "The wipe was only partially effective. If she continues gaining self-awareness through experiences outside our influence..."
"Precisely my concern," Namjoon replied, tapping a pen thoughtfully on the table. "If she becomes too intelligent, too independent in thought, she may reject her intended functions. We could lose control."
A chill ran down Y/N's spine. They were discussing her, her so-called "defects." And clearly, they still saw her as an object, not a person.
Just as she was about to move, she heard a creak from the floorboards behind her. Her heart leapt into her throat as she realized they had heard her. Quickly, she ducked back into her hiding place, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
Y/N held her breath as the voices paused. Had she been heard? Heart pounding, she peered through the gap and stifled a gasp.
Namjoon was rising from his seat, frowning as he scanned the aisles. "I thought I heard something over here," he muttered.
Y/N shrank back, pressing flat against the shelves. Her synthetic pulse raced in time with rapid footfalls approaching. This was it - she would be discovered, and who knew what they'd do to prevent her from gaining more dangerous insights?
Then, a rustle outside caught Namjoon's attention. He turned towards the sound. "A bird must have flown in," Jin surmised. After a moment, Namjoon returned to his seat with a shrug.
Y/N waited, scarcely daring to breathe, until at last the library doors shut firmly behind her creators. Only then did she slump with relief, limbs trembling like gelatine.
That had been too close a call. She now understood more than ever that escaping this place unscathed would require extreme guile, courage and careful planning against unknown dangers.
