Monday had come and gone. Today was Tuesday, the day the results of the Student Council elections would be announced. As they were told, the entire student body gathered around the great hall and took their seats.
Kiyotaka watched them from his own seat close to the front of the hall. Ichinose sat next to him. Being the candidates, they would need to be near the podium should one of them be called to give their commemoration speech.
"Hmhmhm. This is quite a sight, isn't it. Too bad this is the only time you will see it from this point of view, Ayanokouji. Since we already know how the results will turn out."
Unfortunately, that also meant that Nagumo was sitting next to them. Being the current Student Council President, he too was going to give a speech about his presidency before the new person was elected.
Taking advantage of this, Nagumo had consistently sent jabs after jabs at Kiyotaka, though the latter ignored them. Ichinose was clearly getting uncomfortable being in between the two boys, but she knew she would cause a scene if she tried to speak up and get them to stop. So she stayed silent.
Luckily for the two second years, they didn't have to wait too much longer as Mashima walked up to the front and took position behind the podium. He tested the microphone by tapping it a couple of times, which also inevitably garnered the attention of the entire student body.
"Ahem! Thank you everyone for coming. It is important that you are all here as we announce the change of the Student Council members. Being here to know who out of the two candidates you voted for is crowned and what they intend to do starting today."
Mashima paused to look at the trio sitting nearby to the stage. "First, before we announce the results, we would like to hear some words from the current Student Council President Nagumo Miyabi."
Said blonde third year smirked as he stood up and approached the podium to speak to the student body.
"Thank you, Mashima-sensei. I first would like to thank everyone for the support. Last year around this time, I had taken this position from the previous Student Council President Horikita Manabu, who had served you all for nearly 2 years. Since then, the improvements I have made to this school as part of my term have been paramount. The introduction of OAA to measure abilities, tablets for school classes and special exams, an improvement to facilities here at ANHS. I believe I have left a great mark here as much as any Student Council President would have and I am glad to have had the support from everyone."
Nagumo paused to let his achievements settle in for the student body. The introduction of the OAA did cause some friction at the beginning, but it was fair to say that it did actually have its uses.
"Back when I made my pledges last year, I had made the changes to term agreements for Student Council members. While I had implemented this change and had intended to run for this position up until my graduation, I am sad to hear that will not happen since we are having these elections, but we cannot always see everything be implemented. In the world of politics, politicians make promises, and while they do try to make them all come true, not all of them can be fulfilled. My advice to everyone here is to always keep these in mind, make pledges but don't make promises."
He then turned to Ayanokouji and Ichinose sitting nearby.
"Out of Ayanokouji and Honami, whoever takes the position, I wish you the best of luck and hope you can continue to turn this school into a place where everyone can both grow from the weak to the strong, and feel welcomed like any other normal school at the same time. Both of your pledges have amazed me and I cannot wait to see whoever wins to make them... Even if some of us may know the obvious answer."
