Song: Warrior- Demi Lovato
Ash hummed softly as she walked. Walking was all they did, day in, day out. Michonne always said they couldn't stay in one place long, that it was dangerous to stick around. Andrea always said that the only way they could find Ash's family was by constantly searching for them. That was why Ash walked each day without end, no matter how tired she was or how much her feet hurt. She missed her parents and brother so much.
In the meantime Bip and Bap were the closest thing to playmates she had. Those were the names she had granted to Michonne's pet walkers. She'd named them after her favorite dish, Bibimbap. She never got to eat it much. Only on the rare occasions she was in Kyllian's apartment for the day and he didn't want to cook. It always made her visits to his tiny apartment that much more fun.
Andrea had been sick for a few days now. They had slowed down because of it, Andrea couldn't go any faster.
"Stay here," Michonne said. She handed the walker's chains to Andrea. They reached another little abandoned town. "I'm going to go into that building, clear it, and then we can rest."
Ash tilted her head. "We always walk till the sun starts to go down, it's noon."
She was too young to really understand how sick Andrea was. She knew she was cold and shivering all the time, that she was weaker and slower than she usually was, but couldn't see how dire it really was like Michonne. Because Michonne knew that if she didn't find some medicine for Andrea soon it would only get worse. Andrea could very well die.
"Don't your feet hurt?" Andrea asked.
She nodded. "Yes."
"That's why we're taking a break, because our feet hurt too."
Michonne crossed the street and went inside to clear the building. She came back a couple of minutes later. "It was empty, go." She once again supported Andrea to walk. They headed into the building. It was old and only one floor. Ash believed it used to be some kind of outdoorsy shop because it had a really faded sign looming above the porch and antlers mounted to the wall surrounded the entrance. Inside it was dark and everything was old. Bib and Bop were chained to a post by the entrance. Anytime they were left by the entrance walkers didn't bother them as much.
Michonne brought them all the way to the far back. She always decided where they would stay and for how long. Once they were in the far back she let them through another door into a big empty room.
"Had to be a storage area," Andrea noted, looking up at the hooks in the ceiling.
"It's so dark here," Ash said, shuddering.
"It's safe," Michonne replied. She had Andrea sit down against the wall and made sure her gun was fully loaded. "Ashlyn, help me carry some stuff from the storefront."
Ash shrugged her backpack off and walked back towards the door. Michonne didn't move and simply looked at her like she was forgetting something important. "Oh!" She ran back to her bag.
After their first meeting Michonne had wondered how she and Andrea wound up running around the woods. Back then she was still trying to figure out if she could trust them. So Andrea told her how the walkers had cut her off from the others and she was accidentally forgotten. Ash also told her story, about how she'd forgotten her beloved teddy bear and only realized when they were at the cars. That she had ran back as quick as she could without telling anyone because they all looked so busy, and how everyone but Andrea had disappeared when she finally had her teddy back.
Michonne was adamant that something that stupid wasn't going to happen again. Taking the stuffed animal away from the girl completely was especially cruel, so she had to come up with another solution. That solution was a short length of string tied around the stuffed animal on the one end and a carabiner on the other.
