A MISSING KISS
Haeyun took a step back, her hands still lingering on Sunghoon's arm, as if she didn't want to let it go. She studied his face with her eyes darting from his eyes to his lips and back again. There was something distant in his expression, a guardedness that she couldn't quite comprehend.
"Sunghoon..." she began slowly with her whispered tone. Her voice wavering with uncertainty.
As Haeyun wanted to reach him again, he suddenly moved back, creating an invisible barrier between them. A heavy sigh escapes his lips with his expression which couldn't be explain.
"Who are you?" He asked with his hoarse voice, cutting through the air like a blade. His eyes darted on her face but his eyes shown no feelings.
Haeyun stared at Sunghoon meanwhile her heart sinking at his words. She was utterly dumbfounded by the question.
"Who am I?" She repeated as her voice quivering with disappointment and disbelief.
"What do you mean, who am I? You know who I am, don't you?"
Haeyun struggled to accept the reality of the situation, but as she looked into his eyes, she found herself at the state of loss for words. Tears welled up in her eyes, threatening to spill over.
She fought back to hold the tears. She looked back at him.
'it's been 10 years. It's make sense why people could forget about someone,' Haeyun tried to stay positive and smile bitterly.
As Sunghoon made moves to leave, Haeyun suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist, preventing him from going. Her eyes locked into his and she spoke up.
"Wait," she said, her voice firm.
"don't go..."
Sunghoon stopped. Surprised briefly flashing in his eyes. He looked down at Haeyun's grip on his wrist, then back up at her face, a mixture of confusion and curiousity in his gaze. She tightened her fingers around his wrist, her touch burning into his skin. Her eyes held his, refusing to look away.
As the tension continued to build between them, Sunghoon suddenly broke the silence.
"you're not afraid of me?" He asked with a voice laced with a touch of surprise and caution.
Haeyun's grip on his wrist loosened. " why would I be afraid of you?" She replied to him.
"I know you Sunghoon," she said with confident.
"I know you better than anyone else, so no. I'm not afraid of you. I've never have been and never will be." She added.
Sunghoon's eyes widened at her words, his defenses wavering for a moment. The earnestness and certainty in her voice made it hard for him to dismiss her words.
"you... You don't understand," he muttered, his voice a mix of frustration and disbelief. "you shouldn't-"
Haeyun interrupted him, firmly shaking her head. "no, you're the one who doesn't understand," she responded, her voice stronger now.
"I know what you are, Sunghoon. I know about vampires. And it doesn't change anything. You're still you."
"I can't even remember myself. How could you be so confident about me?" He suddenly spoke up.
"so don't act like we know each other or else i will kill you..." Sunghoon said with a little bit of annoying tone.
Her heart ached at his cold and detached demeanor, but she refused to back down. She stood her ground, her voice firm and unyielding.
"you can threaten me all you want, but i know you," she replied, her voice steady. "your threats don't scare me, Sunghoon. I know the real you, and deep down, I know you won't hurt me."
As Sunghoon turned to leave, Haeyun's voice stopped him once more. "where are you going?" she asked, her tone filled with a hint of pleading.
"you can't just leave. We need to talk."
"I don't talk to human."
"But you already did it."
"Shut up, human,"
"You stay in my house. You should be thankful." Haeyun said as she watched Sunghoon wanted to jump out of the window.
"i know you don't remember anything. But I can help you." Sunghoon looked back at her after he heard that.
"I can help you to bring back your memories. Everything." Haeyun added again. Tried to convince him not to leave.
Sunghoon's hand paused on the window frame, his back still facing her. He stayed silent, his body tense and unmoving. Sunghoon didn't turn around completely, but he tilted his head slightly to indicate that he was listening. He remained silent, waiting for her to continue.
Sunghoon's hand still rested on the window frame, his grip tight, but he shifted slightly, turning his face just enough to look at her from the corner of his eye.
"Why should I trust you?" he asked bluntly, his voice laced with skepticism.
Haeyun's heart skipped a beat at his question, but she held his gaze without flinching.
"You have no reason to trust me," she admitted, her voice firm yet sincere.
"But think about it. You're lost, wandering around without memories, trying to piece together your own existence. I'm offering to help you, to give you answers."
Sunghoon's expression hardened, his gaze turning cold.
"And what do you want in return?" he asked, his voice laced with suspicion.
Haeyun took another step forward, closing the distance between them a little. She raised her chin in defiance, refusing to back down.
"Nothing," she stated firmly. "I just want to help you, Sunghoon. That's all."
Sunghoon finally turned to face her, his eyes locking onto hers. The coldness in his gaze hadn't disappear, but there was a hint of intrigue mixed in there now.
"you're either really stupid or really brave to offer help to a vampire without wanting anything in return," he said sarcastically.
After a moment of tense silence, Sunghoon finally spoke up.
"Alright," he said, his voice filled with resignation.
"I'll accept your help. But if this is some kind of trap or trick, I'll show you just how dangerous a vampire can be." Haeyun nodded and smile at him.
Haeyun's attention was abruptly yanked away from Sunghoon as the sound of the doorbell echoed from downstairs out of blue. She whirled around and glanced out the window, her eyes immediately falling on the car parked in front of her house. An uneasy feeling settled in her stomach, and she turned back to Sunghoon.
"Wait here," she said firmly, her voice tight with tension. "I'll be right back."
Without waiting for a response, Haeyun hurried out of the attic room, her footsteps echoing down the stairs as she made her way towards the front door.
As Haeyun disappeared out of sight, Sunghoon remained in the room, his thoughts swirling. A small smirk tugged at the corners of his lips as he reflected on Haeyun's behavior.
He couldn't deny that she was indeed slightly clumsy and annoying, but there was something about her that intrigued him despite his cool demeanor. Her determination and unwavering spirit had caught his attention.
"Human..."
