In the hot sun, a classroom on the second floor of Ador Middle School. Jin stood at the podium, holding a teaching triangle, his coat mostly wet with sweat. The ceiling fan was running, making a loud noise. The students below were drowsy as well.
Jin couldn't help feeling a little irritable. "Look at the blackboard." He frowned slightly when he noticed the girl sitting in the third row, he tapped the blackboard harder with the ruler.
"Look at the blackboard! Look at the blackboard!"
Several students who were about to fall asleep woke up, opening their eyes wide and forcing themselves to look at the blackboard.
The girl, seemingly unfazed, continued to lower her head and scribble on her paper with a pencil. She had a beautiful, harmless face, she was still young, a bit younger, and even more lovely. Sitting upright, with a calm and gentle demeanor, she looked like the teacher's favorite obedient student, ignoring the teacher at the podium.
Jin's frown deepened, and he continued to mutter. "Angle one equals angle two, and angle three equals 108 degrees—"
"Pham Hanni!" Jin's patience wore thin, and he slammed the triangle ruler on the table.
The plastic ruler hit the wooden table with a loud noise. The sound startled the class, causing everyone to shrink back, and the subsequent roar intensified the tense atmosphere.
"Childish!" Hanni looked up at Jin for two seconds before lowering her pen and standing up.
Struggling to control his temper, Jin asked, "What did I just say?"
Hanni glanced at the blackboard with a calm expression and replied, "Angle four equals 72 degrees."
Accustomed to Hanni's perfect student demeanor, Jin wasn't fooled this time. He slammed the ruler on the desk again and sneered, "I haven't said that yet!"
Hanni began to feel slightly challenged. "Then why did you call me up?"
"What do you think I called you up for?" Jin retorted.
Hanni thought for a few seconds and guessed, "Will you..."
Jin remained silent.
Hanni continued, "Well, if you called me up, do you want me to teach you?"
Jin was taken aback.
Looking at the blackboard, Hanni said, "Since angle one is equal to angle two, AB is parallel to CD. The two lines are parallel and supplementary to the interior angle on the same side—"
Jin couldn't bear it anymore. "You're so good, shouldn't you be my teacher?"
Interrupted, Hanni's expression turned blank. Her lips parted as she hesitantly said a few seconds later, "But I can't take your job."
The room fell silent for a moment before the class erupted in laughter.
Jin was furious. "Stop making noise! Be quiet!"
The students continued laughing, and the classroom turned as noisy as a marketplace. A few teenagers in the back row laughed and joked.
"Teacher, I think it's okay! Let Hanni take over the class!"
"Then we won't have to do homework anymore!"
Jin shouted, "Silence!" He looked at Hanni again, his breathing heavy as he tried to control his anger. Finally, he growled, "Call your parents tomorrow."
The bell rang after class.
Jin left the classroom without looking back. It was the last class of the day, so most students packed up and left early.
