After a few minutes of walking, we both could see the church in the distance. As we got closer, I could see the church strikingly beautiful as always. The white paint on the walls gleamed under the morning sun, and the simple cross on top stood tall against the blue sky. It looked almost peaceful, like a postcard scene, even though I knew what waited for me inside.
Dammit I still didn't want to come.
Grayson let go of my wrist, not squeezing it tightly anymore. His expression softened slightly, but he didn't stop there. He reached for my hand, intertwining his fingers with mine, holding on firmly yet gently as we walked toward the church.
As we were walking, we saw a familiar face the old couple, Eleanor and Harold. They were attending the church, just like we were.
Eleanor saw us coming in the same direction she was with her husband. She gave us a warm smile. I love this old lady; she's very kind.
Eleanor turned to her husband, Harold, and whispered something in his ear. Harold leaned over, listening to what she had to say, then looked back at us with a slight smirk.
Grayson noticed it and rolled his eyes, still holding my hand, our fingers intertwined as we both walked inside the church, with Eleanor and Harold following behind us.
The inside of the church was small but so beautiful. Sunlight streamed through the stained glass windows, painting the worn wooden pews in soft hues of red, blue, and gold. every footstep seemed to echo gently against the stone floor. The altar at the front was simple. It was a lovely place to look at, peaceful even, for some reason, it made me almost forget about my problems at home. I couldn't help but feel the turmoil inside me while still being here.
Me and Grayson settled into the pew at the very back of the church, choosing the end spot where no one could sit beside us. This was Grayson's idea.
Grayson made sure we were a little far from the others, positioning himself close to the aisle and leaving no room for anyone to encroach on our space. He took my hand firmly in his, holding it tightly as we bowed our heads in prayer, ensuring that I remained within his reach and untouched by anyone else.
But as I tried to focus and pray, I kept losing my attention span, my mind drifting off to somewhere else in those slight moments. Grayson's hand gently squeezed mine, the squeeze almost telling me to stay focused, and it helped me a bit as he noticed my subtle gaze wandering off.
After the prayer was over, everyone around the small room started talking about what they were going to do for the day. One person said they were going to bed after this, another said they were going to the park, and yet another mentioned going to each other's houses later in the evening.
It seemed like the small town was always busy with activities. Meanwhile, my husband and I didn't really do anything together except fight and argue. Even now, we weren't talking to each other, just gazing around the room and looking at others.
I noticed the old couple, Eleanor and Harold, weren't far away from me. Then I felt another pair of eyes on me. I looked over and saw that the person looking at me with annoyance was none other than Chloe Davenport.
Yeah, the same girl who was friends with Grayson Mel, my husband, since childhood. For some reason, as soon as i came into this town, she always had an attitude towards me, making snarky, rude comments. She would say things like,
"Grayson doesn't really love you. You know that, right?" or "Just remember, I'm the one who has his heart the most. I know him better than you."The girl was completely delusional, living in her own little world, thinking I would be somewhat hurt by her comments. But in reality, I couldn't care less about what Grayson thought about me. I already hated him, so what's the point?
