Despite the evening air being quite refreshing after the long day of driving, the temperature was starting to drop as the night fell.
As Y/N and Shinso supported Eri's weight on either side of her, they slowly made their way to the back of Y/N's car.
The two kids' breaths became visible in the air as they exhaled.
Y/N rummaged through her first-aid kit, pulling out the necessary supplies to treat Eri's leg wound.
Y/N's actions were efficient but gentle, as she carefully cleaned and assessed the wound on Eri's leg.
The cut wasn't deep but the sight of blood still made Shinso feel a little uneasy.
Even with Y/N being as gentle as possible, Eri was still in pain.
Eri's face was twisted in pain, and her little body trembled involuntarily as Y/N cleaned the wound on her leg.
Eri's grip on Shinso's hand tightened, causing the purple-haired boy to wince a little.
Y/N noticed the pained expression on Eri's face and quickly tried to take her mind off the pain.
She began speaking to Eri in a soothing, calming voice, trying to distract her.
"You're doing so well, Eri. I know it hurts a little, but the cut isn't very deep. I'll have it cleaned up in no time," Y/N said with a smile, gently applying some antiseptic to the wound.
Eri makes a small smile through the pain.
Y/N couldn't help but notice how hard Eri was squeezing Shinso's hand.
Even though the purple-haired boy was trying to keep a stoic expression, Y/N could sense his discomfort.
"Looks like Eri has a strong grip there, Hitoshi," Y/N said, her tone playful.
"Are you sure she won't break your hand?" Y/N continues.
"Yeah right" Hitoshi scoffs, whilst Eri giggles at her brothers reaction.
Y/N knew that Shinso was clearly on edge, his body language tense and his eyes full of wariness.
She could sense that he didn't trust her, and she couldn't blame him.
However, she wanted to reassure him, so she spoke to him directly.
"Hitoshi, I know you're worried about your sister, but I promise you, I'll take good care of her. I'm a nurse, and I've dealt with scrapes and cuts like this many times before. I want to help her, I promise," Y/N said quietly, holding Shinso's gaze.
Y/N saying this calmed down Hitoshi somewhat but that didn't  mean he really trusted her just yet.
Y/N's kind and caring nature had a profound effect on Eri.
The little girl had never had a mother figure before, and the gentle way Y/N was treating her was like something from a dream.
Eri felt a profound sense of warmth and security around Y/N. Growing up, Eri had never had a female figure in her life, given that her entire family was exclusively male.
Y/N's presence filled a void in Eri's life that had been left by the absence of a female figure.
Eri found herself wanting Y/N to be her mother, to fill the void in her life that had been left by the absence of a maternal figure. It was as if Y/N had unlocked a deep yearning inside Eri, a longing for love and affection that only a mother could provide.
Y/N was now finished wrapping a badge around Eri's leg, Y/N suddenly felt a strange sense of unease.
It was a feeling she couldn't quite explain, but it was as if something dangerous was approaching from a distance.
She glanced around, trying to identify the source of the feeling, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
The feeling of dread grew stronger, and just as Y/N was contemplating the weird sensation, a tall, dark-haired man appeared a little way down the road.
The imposing figure slowly approached the group.
