Lucifer stared at the growing number of refugees pouring into his kingdom, their faces hollowed by fear and exhaustion. He had seen this before, time and again—villagers fleeing the cruelty of rulers who valued power over their people. Yet, each new face seemed to tear at his soul, a stark reminder of the darkness that continued to corrupt the world.

"Apex," he called softly, trying to keep his voice steady. Apex stood at the edge of the crowd, his eyes fixed on a group of haggard villagers who had just arrived. There was something in his expression, something deeper than just concern for strangers.

Apex's gaze didn’t waver. His hands clenched into fists at his sides. "They're from my village," he said through gritted teeth, his voice barely above a whisper. "Those people… they’re my family."

Lucifer frowned, stepping closer. "Your family? Apex, what happened?"

Apex’s breathing quickened, and his voice trembled with anger. "That wretch of a man… he was nothing but a greedy, power-hungry fool. He overthrew our rightful king and turned our home into a living nightmare. My parents—" Apex's voice broke for a moment, but he swallowed hard, pushing the emotion down. "My parents were supposed to be safe. I sent them away so they wouldn’t suffer like the rest of us. But now…"

He turned to Lucifer, his eyes burning with a mix of fury and desperation. "This can’t continue. We can’t just let this happen. We need to do something! I need to stop him before he destroys everything I care about."

Lucifer placed a hand on Apex's shoulder, his own heart heavy with empathy. "Apex, I understand your pain. I've faced those who’ve taken everything from me, too. But rushing into this won’t bring justice—it’ll only bring more bloodshed. We need a plan."

Apex shook his head fiercely. "No! I can’t wait anymore. I've already lost so much. My people—my family—need me now! I won’t let that tyrant continue to ruin their lives. We have to act, Lucifer. We have to stop him!"

Lucifer’s eyes darkened. He could feel Apex’s rage and sorrow radiating off him, like heat from a wildfire. He remembered his own fury, his own need for vengeance against those who had wronged him. But he also knew the consequences of acting blindly, of letting anger take control.

He sighed, keeping his voice calm but firm. "We will act, Apex. But not recklessly. We’ll take back your village, but we must do it strategically. We need to be smart, or we’ll end up like every other resistance that’s fallen to the greed of tyrants."

Apex’s jaw tightened, his breath heavy with frustration. "I just... I can't stand it anymore, Lucifer. I can't stand seeing them suffer like this. I feel so helpless."

Lucifer’s hand remained steady on Apex’s shoulder, grounding him. "You’re not helpless, Apex. You're strong, and that strength can save them. But only if you use it wisely. We’ll stop that selfish king, together. But first, we prepare. You’ve seen what haste and anger can do. We can’t let that be our downfall."

Apex looked into Lucifer’s eyes, the fury slowly cooling, replaced by something steadier—determination. He nodded, albeit reluctantly. "Fine. But promise me this: we don’t wait too long. I don’t want my parents or my people to suffer for another moment longer."

Lucifer nodded. "I promise, Apex. We’ll move quickly, but we’ll move smartly. And when the time comes, we’ll make sure that tyrant pays for what he's done."

Apex exhaled deeply, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. "Thank you, Lucifer. I won’t let you down."

As they turned back toward the castle, Lucifer's mind raced. He could feel the weight of leadership pressing on him again, the responsibility to protect not only his own kingdom but also the people Apex had sworn to save. But this time, he would not do it alone. Together, they would bring justice to a world that had seen too little of it.

And they would do it on their terms.
