"Why are we going with these soldier guys when we don't even know them, they could be right now planning our deaths" My younger brother Ben exclaimed dramatically. At this moment we are following in our car the soldiers which we later found out had two other soldiers waiting in there truck which set my two older brothers in a slight panic due to being outnumbered if a fight breaks out, they haven't said anything but I know my brothers and I know there worried and are being extremely vary of there surroundings while tom continues to rant next to me.
"Because for the fiftieth time, they said they have shelter and food and I don't know about you but I'm starving and in need of company other then you three and if you haven't noticed with all of your complaining it's getting dark outside so with the quicks out I don't think we have much of a chance.
Besides Lilly's hurt pretty bad and the soldiers said they have medical equipment which she needs" Danny explained with barely concealed anger which showed his growing worry over not just me but our family."So if you would be so kind to shut your trap and trust us to protect you that would be lovely" Fin finished off in a demanding voice he uses when he's on edge which certainly by the look on Bens face shut him up but he was annoyed by the pout on his lips.
"Hey what are they doing" Danny asked looking at the soldiers slowing down to gradually stopping ahead of us on the side of a run down supermarket. Fin slowed and parked the car behind the soldiers' massive truck.
"You three stay here while we see what's happening" Fin demands myself and Ben as he and Danny get out and head to the soldiers talking by there truck.
"Why does Fin treat me like a baby?" Tom exclaims to know one in particular "I'm almost eleven why can't I go an 'See what's happening'" Ben speech bubbled and continued "I get why they left you your injured, but I deserve to be involved I'm strong too. That's it ill be back, you stay here" Ben ranted while proceeding to get out of the car.
"No Ben come back here, I don't want you hurt please" I pleaded my brother to get back in the car and I knew by crease in his forehead I've almost persuaded him so I knew I had to play dirty "please I need protection, I can barely move my foot" I pleaded and stuck my bottom lip out for added effect
Ben sighed and closed the door with his attention span he was quickly distracted by everyone outside."Look they are all going in there" Ben exclaimed squatting to his knees near the window to get a better look "apart from the two other soldiers again waiting in there truck, jeez that is a big truck though don't you think Lil" ben exclaimed all in one breath while turning his head to me.
"Yeah buddy its cool truck isn't it maybe later you could ask politely one of the soldiers to have a closer look" I knew he needed something to get his mind off what is happening around us and if that meant looking inside a big truck then I would make that happen for him.
"Aww man that would be awesome Lil" Ben exclaimed with a excited smile that soon dimmed "but do you think they'll let me" Ben asked with a sad little frown.
"Of course one look at a scary Fin and anyone would let you in anywhere" I laughed with Ben, our laughs halted when we heard the yells and crashes coming from inside the supermarket.
"Do you think Fin and Danny are okay" Ben asked now eyes lined with fear for his older brothers.
"Are you kidding, have you seen the muscle that is your brothers nothing can bring them down little man" I reassured him while giving him a quick squeeze.
I thought about all of the scenarios that could be happening, there could be quicks in there attacking them. This is what we call the monsters. We have heard many other names over the past year this has all gone on like demons, monsters, dark ones you know all of those spooky names. I've only seen one of them once and it looked like a thing that nightmares are made of. With scaley black skin and dead sunken eyes they towered over anyone they meet we call them quicks because of the obvious reason, speed.
In my lessons with my brothers to train they said to always aim for the middle of the chest as that is where the heart is. I don't want to know how they know how they know that.
We heard another crash drawing my attention back from my thoughts, I feared the worst. Taking Ben's hand we waited on bated breath for whatever was going to come out.
We looked with wonder as my brothers and soldiers came out holding three live loud squawking chickens. "CHICKENS" Ben yelled excitedly.
