Finding home

Chapter 3

I groaned softly as I shifted my position in the car, it's been five hours and still we are still driving to this unknown location. The drive has not been pleasant to say the least, my ankle has been throbbing since I got back into the car and has only gotten worse with all of the bumps and turns. Things are looking up indeed for me. Sarcasm well intended.

Ben exhales loudly beside me, this has happened the past hour as well as the 'are we there yets'. I think Fin might actually kill him soon.

"Fin they are stopping" Danny exclaims excitedly. I think we are all excited to be out of this car. We pull up behind the soldiers truck and Fin and Danny get out. Ben exhales again loudly. I sigh internally "please shut it Ben" I ask tiredly. I'm in to much pain to deal with my little brother right now.

"I need to get out to pee lil" Ben pleads "pleaseee" he continues to whine. "Please" "please" "please" he continues.

I knock on the car window loudly gaining the attention of everyone standing outside talking and signal my brothers over. They both walk over and I roll down the window. "You okay Lilly?" Fin asked with concern when they reached me.
"Yeah just please take Ben to the toilet" I point to the boy behind me doing a pee dance in his seat. Fin looks at Danny and grins "You're turn I had to take him last time" Danny sighs dramatically and signals Ben to get out, which he does very quickly. They walk over to a nearby tree. Fin then looks at me and leans on the window "now are you really okay?" He asked in brotherly concern. I can't hide anything from him so I tell him the truth "Yeah no it hurts like a" I'm interrupted by the soldiers joining us. Mark I think his name is asked "Is everything over here okay?" Fin glared at them all "Yes And you're interrupting" "Fin!" I exclaimed "they are being nice" Mark and Jonah smiled at me but the other just stared at me. I blushed at the attention and looked away.

Danny and Ben returned and thankfully cut the awkward silence. "So are we resting here tonight?" Danny asked the soldiers. The stern one that stared at me now directed his sharp gaze to my brother and answered "No we have only have two hours remaining until we reach the base" and with that walked away. Okay then.

Jonah laughed awkwardly "aha that's just sarge, anyway the drive is not that rough these last two hours and it will be over before you know it" Jonah encouraged us with a smile and wave and he and mark followed the sergeant.

Danny sighed and looked at me "two more hours and that ankle can be treated lil, hang in there" he smiled. Preparing myself for this trip I exhaled and willed myself to sleep. Eventually exhaustion won.

"Lilly wake up we are here" my eyes flutter open, I sit up slowly careful of my ankle. Suddenly I remember what's happening and squint in the darkness to see a massive wall. "Woah" Ben exclaims in wonder. Fin hums in agreement. The gate opens and the soldiers truck drives forward into the base.

"So this is it" Danny says in silence. "Do or die" Fin replies. Always the positive one of the family I say "It looks safe at least" "Hopefully" Fin whispers worriedly. Ben takes my hand and we drive forward into either our future or our death.
