Finding home

Chapter 5

After we had left the medical centre most of the soldiers had already left apart from Jonah and the sarge. We found out the two other soldiers in the truck names where Brad and Greg, they seemed nice. Everyone seemed nice enough here, I mean apart from the sarge, he seemed cold and scary. Then again so is Fin and he's really a sweet pushover when you get to know him, maybe I was wrong and only time will tell me that.

It was nearing morning now and we could see the compound better now. Small grey houses lined up everywhere you could see. Also a large area with large picnic tables which I'm guessing is the eating area. I could also see around 3 water towers and I was told by Jonah that they have a couple of vegetable gardens and a a small farm. It all sounded so amazing.

I was getting sleepy in Fins arms as Jonah talked our ear off about the compound. Ben whined next to us about being tired. That seemed to change Jonah's rambling to an apologetic look "Sorry little guy, I get a bit proud of this place sometimes and can go on forever, I'll take you too your unit". We followed Jonah and the Sarge, who I still don't know why he is still with us when he has literally said nothing this whole time. We made our way too a small unit that Jonah said will be ours. I could not hold back the happy tears as I stared at the small grey unit. Our new home. Ours.

We walked inside the small unit and had a look around, there where three small rooms with a bed in each and a small dresser. We had a small kitchen and lounge area in the same area and a tiny bathroom. It was perfect and it was ours.

Jonah said as soon as he can he will get a small cot to put in one of the rooms as one of us had no where to sleep. Jonah left with many goodbyes and see you tomorrow, well today as it was probably around three in the morning. He thought that was a really funny joke by the way. It was sad but we all laughed anyway. Sarge stayed a minute longer than Jonah and looked at me almost the whole time making me nervous and in the process making all of my brothers very angry. To try and diffuse the tension and make him leave because come on I'm tired and in pain give me a break I said a weak "Goodnight Sarge" giving him a small smile. He looked at me with those entrancing green eyes "Call me Kage". He then nodded to my furious brothers and left.

Seeing my brothers faces I quickly cut in "I'm so drained, can I go to sleep now" Fin looked at the door one more time but thought the better of it, he carried me to one of the bedrooms, I didn't care which one, I just wanted to sleep. After everyone was settled with Fin on the little sofa near the front door, Danny and Ben in the other bedrooms fast asleep I started drifting off, my last though being one person. Kage.

I woke up to frantic voices calling my name, "Lilly wake up" LILLY! It's just a nightmare lil"

I opened my eyes groggily to fin and Danny staring at me worryingly. I didn't want to worry them. "Hey" my voice was scratchy from what I assume was me screaming in my sleep.
